Bad front wheel bearing at 7500 miles?

So I was just getting ready for my track weekend. I put the front of my ZLE on jack stands and started my oil change to 15w-50. I noticed what looked like grease on the back of the drivers side steering knuckle. I panicked because I thought I blew a DSSV damper and there's no way that was getting here in 24 hours. Took it into the dealer and they told me it was the bearing. He stated this is a common issue for people that track their cars. I've only had 2 track days so far, 1 at Road America, the other at the Milwaukee Mile in the road course config. They're fixing it now and I should get the car back tonight in time to change the diff and brake fluid.

Anyone else have this issue this early on? How common is this?

The front DSSVs have a vent on the body, it will squirt out some grease. It is normal due to the DSSV being an insert type of front strut. This has been documented on both the ZL1 1LE and the Gen5 Z/28 which also has the DSSVs. GM has put out a service bulletin on this.

A pic of your grease leakage would help confirm. It's a clear to yellowish tint.

I've had the Z/28 DSSVs apart and have seen the ghost drawing of the Gen6 DSSVs and they are similar in design and function. I doubt wheel bearings on Gen6 Camaros are failing at a higher rate due to them being tracked. GM did their homework on these cars. I haven't heard of anyone complaining about failing wheel bearings.

Thanks guys! So it looks like excess grease applied during assembly. Just seems odd to only happen on one of 4 struts.
