Well first off you should start by getting in the car and with the engine off wiggle the steering wheel back and forth to see if you have play there should be minimal to no play in the steering wheel next whether you have play or not you want to start by unloading the suspension whether it's on a lift or jack stands. the subframe has a skid plate that's welded and it's kind of hard to access the fasteners. There is a plastic shield I believe that is under the fascia that when removed you can see the nuts or possibly the threads of a bolt that secure the rack. Another way to get to them is from the back of the subframe on either side of your oil pan. Cuse caution because depending on your model the exhaust may be exactly above ehere your trying to put your hand. The fasteners aren't the easiest to get at either way but again the bolts will not come out of the subframe as the heads are in between the layers. I found this specifically on a 2016 6th gen 2ss a8 and haven't had another one in for the same concern. Unfortunately I had replaced two steering angle sensors for the intermittent stabilitrac message and almost steered off the parkway due to the hard pull to the left while changing lanes. Again this still may not be your problem but potentially part of it as there may not be enough play to set the steering angle plausibility code. In any case this should be checked regardless.

That's crazy! I'll check the steering wheel part but can't really do the rest I guess. This needs to be recalled sounds pretty serious.

It's definitely an issue to look into more, the specific car did have very low miles about 1600 but the thing that had me skeptical was that it seemed like there was some tampering with the undercarriage at some point even with the lower miles...

There is a Service Bulletin for the Intermittent pulling. I went to another dealer by me, different than i have been going to, and they printed out the bulletin and re-programmed my car in 10 minutes. It will take a few days to see if it worked but if youre having this problem, have your service dept look at the service bulletins.

I have been dealing with the same issue since the end of March. My dealer has tried to fix this problem 5 times now, 3 of which have been the reprogram listed in the technical bulletin. After the 2nd reprogram attempt, I was told they broke my steering gear and the service manager tried to tell me that they found it that way after noticing the car was making a popping sound when fully turning either way (even though the mechanic working on my car told me they broke it while it was being worked on). After replacing the steering gear, the car worked fine for 3 days and now is pulling again.
I have called the customer assistance line in the owners manual multiple times and been given the run around on getting this problem dealt with since I reached out to Chevy/GM. Maybe when someone has an accident or gets hurt due to this problem they will actually start to be concerned about it. That being said, I have requested they repurchase my vehicle because I can't continue to deal with a car that won't go more than 3 days without having this problem come back. |

It seems that there may be two different problems involved here. To be frank the owner of the particular vehicle I was working on was not complaining of a pull i had noticed it myself which helped me further diagnose the problem that I was attempting to fix. I'm recommending to other 6th gen owners aswell that may or may not have this issue to just make sure the steering rack is secure because it is a safety concern. I do not have this problem with my camaro but will be double checking that the next time I have it on the lift.

Matt I feel your pain I'll be going back to dealership a FIFTH time for faulty TPMS dying out then coming back randomly. This time they'll be replacing all the sensors not just that one...sick of all the trips already it is becoming a bit crazy every month I've been in the dealership they all know me now like a regular....not cool.. and Erro keep us updated I'll try and check it later feel like mines still pulling a little even after that update....this should be recalled already.

Ill definitely continue to update this and let you guys know as soon as I know. There are only a handful of 6th gen owners in my area that come to the dealer for service so I'll keep an eye out for the ones that do come in as I am usually servicing them. As i go forward I'm going to probably end up checking for any preliminary bulletins as well as an update on the power steering on my 2017 as well and see what the description of the new calibration is if there is one.

I am driving to KY in a week and a half in this car and I legitimately do not feel safe driving on the highway when this pull happens. Feels like we have been doing a lot of this, , and not enough of this,

Did you ever get this fixed? If so what was the resolution?

In CA the way the lemon law reads that taking it in twice and if not fixed you're entitled to a replacement or refund. It would have to be inoperable 30 days and I'm not sure what that means when steering is so erratic the owner feels it is unsafe to drive.
At the very least a threat to return it may light some fires. I don't own a Camaro, but I've been considering a ZL1 as my next car. At least if the steering issue is sorted out. As much as I may like the car, I value my own neck more. Threads like this one and http://www.camaro6.com/forums/showthread.php?t=485889 are making me start to rethink a Camaro purchase. |
