It's confusing because you can't distinguish between a normal temperature and a gauge that isn't working.

I drove my car home from the dealer yesterday wondering if they forgot to put the transmission fluid in from the factory (the temp sensor needs the fluid to be present in order to work correctly).

The sensor would alert to no fluid being present if the transmission was dry, plus the fact that it would be really hard to shift as well.

Are you sure about this? I'm not so sure. The only sensor that's in fluid, that I know about at least, is the temperature sensor and I don't know that it has any function other than measuring temperature.

I'm with you on this, but the transmission actually was pretty hard to shift. The car only had 3 miles on it though, so I assume that's why and it should get better with a little time.

I switched over to amsoil, I got 4 and a half quarts in it before it started coming out. I'm going to drive it for a little and recheck level.i have a feeling it's not actually full and their might be air in the cooler lines.

I turned the car back on 2 hours later to go to the store and the temp had only fallen by 25 degrees. It is particularly warm here (70F) so I am sure the ambient temperature of the air kept it from cooling off as quickly as it would if it was moving but not being thrashed.
That's awesome bud... THANK YOU!!!

Mine seems to run hot compared to the above. I've seen 160*-170* in 80*+ days with a few runs.

The 1LE cars have an additional oil cooler for the transmission that the regular SS cars don't get.

See said you needed to wait for a warm enough day before it would register trans temp.

I guess I need to re-read the press release then. I could have swore the 1LE cars had additional cooling that the regular SS cars did not get.

It's the LT 1LE cars that gain additional cooling which is an option on a non-1LE. The SS cars already have the "Track Cooling" package. Though I've never heard if there are any differences in design between the SS and 1LE coolers. Regardless both have the same number of coolers.

That's usually where mine runs. Doesn't really matter if I'm driving easy or getting on it a lot.

That seems pretty odd... I don't even think mine got that hot on track during a 20 minute "beating the crap out of it" session...
