The first is a low-profile 12TW3 and the latter is a 12W6V3. I'm not sure which to get. The 12W6V3 sub seems to be better, but I'm not sure if it's worth the extra $100.
The JL W6 is one of those speakers in the car audio industry that simply make the universe stand still. The number of sound quality subs that are better I can count on one hand, they aren't made in America and they cost exponentially more. The W6 is arguably the only single quality product even produced by JL since everything else is available at better by somewhere else. I would never in a million years disrespect the heritage of what a W6 represents by purchasing a pre-fab box to place it in. Like swapping a Bentley motor into a Ford truck. If you have this kind of money for a sub, do yourself a favor and pay a reputable car audio shop to custom build you exactly what you want (preferably with a JL W6). Do not be conned into believing JL's prefab box is worth anything beyond a paperweight or for your back yard bonfire.

I to have the 1SS and will be installing a sub box soon. I went with a Kicker 12" ported box and like they said above there is not much room like there was in the 5th Gen. I had to feed my sub box through the rear seat opening with the sub face down pull it through to the back trunk opening to stand it up and move it back into place where I want it to sit. I am going with a 600.1 small mono amp with a 2 ohm load. I will be using the sub by thump plug-n-play wire harness so I don't have to cut and splice any wires. Keep us updated.

Any idea on the pricing? I live in southern California, so it shouldn't be hard to find a reputable audio shop. Also, what should I get it made out of (I am looking for something that won't take up too much room and will sound good)?

A single 12W6v3 and associated materials is less than $400 for the shop, but you're paying for the expertise and installation. Normal mark up is 100% therefore, under no circumstances pay over $800 installed.

Go see Jeff Meece at Meece Car Audio in Lancaster or George Smith with Mobileworks in Santa Maria.

Do not let these guys (or anyone for that matter) try and talk you into a different sub model. The W6 has more accolades and 20+ year proven history than nearly all others on the market combined.

There are varying thoughts on materials, but I am particularly partial to Birch for offering superior sound quality over MDF and 50% weight savings.

Don't forget, you'll still need a dedicated amp for this box and it will carry it's own costs and installation hurdles.

I haven't gotten that far in my research. Any suggestions as to which amps I should be looking at?

If you go class D, there are more amp brands than opinions and they are all pretty much exactly identical for the most part. Stick with a brand name you recognize and you'll be fine, my personal choice for subs is the Rockford Fosgate Punch line and the P1000X2 should do you very nicely. Street price is around $400, but I wouldn't pay more than $600 installed. Most shops like to quote "MSRP" then offer "free installation".

I was originally looking at the Punch line (since my friend has a 12" from Fosgate in his F150), but I have heard good things about JL Audio (especially the W6V3). Is there any reason that one is better than the other or are they extremely similar? Also, thanks to all those who have helped me thus far.

Good signal source, adequate amplification, proper enclosure design... get these matched up according to manufacturer's guidelines and you will get a good result. The brands being discussed here should all offer guidelines.

The RF-Punch P3 is a quality sub, but certainly not remotely on par with a W6. I would have to get deeper into Thiele/Small (Box physics) and discuss ultimate goals but honestly, these are conversations you need to be having face to face with your installer.

JL 12W3v3
JBL Gtx500
Groundshaker Ported Box

1LE doesn't have an amp, JBL amp accepts high level input as well as signal sensing, so I have it wired to the rear passenger speaker

Anyone have issues with ANC? I have the 2LT and only have one black plug with one wire in it. Disconnected it, blinker noise was gone, from what I could tell almost looked like less booming/buzzing noise, but it through a CEL.. that happening to you guys too?
