11-14's are only quicker because they are easier to launch. From a (gasp) roll, they are very evenly matched. |

The '11-14 GT (compared to '15+) were also lighter which was a big driver to the better acceleration #s. |

Show anyone a timeslip with a 2.x + 60' trapping 110-112 mph what the car "should" be capable of with good track prep and a good driver and they'll tell you an easy mid 12's. Quote:

What your seeing is a S550 chassis that simply doesn't put the power down very well, pretty much like the gen5 Camaro. We used to race two '69 Camaro's in Super Stock. You could swap the motor and trans from one car to the other and consistently pick up two tenths in the quarter mile. The only difference was the faster car had better suspension and weight distribution (same total weight and tires).

...also FYI, from someone who spends lots of time at the drag strip, and has over 1000 passes, that 110 mph and a 2.0 60' does not necessarily equate to mid 12's. If that was the case every S550 with a tire and control arm upgrade would be running mid 12's, and we know that is not the case. |

Its a shame they did not test the standard SS and non-1LE V6. Both would have fared well. The SS should be right around the 3:00 mark and the V6 a few seconds behind the V6 1LE and still out punching more expensive cars.
Also I did not see the standard GT350. That would have been interesting against the V8 1LE package.

OIC. wow and the Z/28 Camaro is still on top! I did not get the issue yet. I always look forward to the LL test.

Rule of thumb is, .1 reduction in the 60' equals .2 in the 1/4 mile. Running on stock tires seems to be very difficult for many to get the 60' down. Those that have, have been rewarded with high-mid 12's in the 1/4. Every S550 with a drag radials and control arm upgrade should be running mid 12's period. If they can't, it's all on the driver. |
