I get that, wheel speed and land speed are not directly related. I'm just saying that with a positional tolerance of 10ft the system cannot receive the time signature and process a location fast enough to give you the kind of accuracy that a beam will give if vehicle is moving 0-100mph in one second. For a Camaro it's going to work really well.

Always with the hostility towards anyone who replies to your threads with anything that you don't want to hear. I'm in no way an internet warrior so i guess ill just leave you in your ignorance and not reply to your threads anymore.
Obviously you care enough about what others think to post 10 threads a day on the same/similar subjects, and then refuse to take information or opinions from anyone else without any sort of resistance.

I do not post to see if people care, why would I care what people I don't know think? Read the posts. |

...and that is exactly the problem with these timers. Your wheel speed shot up, but your actual speed didn't. The timer measures off wheel speed, so if wheel spin makes the speed go up even a tiny bit, it will think you got to 60 mph quicker then you actually did.
I agree 100%. |

I'll just offer up my opinion. Magazine writers typically test all vehicles with the same criteria. In other words, the same place using the same techniques. Rarely do they power shift or speed shift manuals. The road / track they use is not usually prepared (no glue sprayed down). The people that do the testing, test hundreds of cars a year. Most have been or are professional drivers. The writers have all been to competitive driving schools and many hold different competition licenses.
In any comparative test, the timed sections are done by a professional driver. Steve Millen was often used by Car and Driver for the Corvette / 911 / 3rd car here comparative tests. The goal of the magazine is to put each car through the same tests, under the same conditions, using the same techniques. They also state that times within .XX is the same time. Within the noise is the common term.

I remember watching a comparison where they state something to the effect of the best time they got on a Mustang was dumping the clutch at x rpm but the best time they got in the camaro was by feathering. Are you saying they only try one technique or that they have a few set techniques they use? |

The consistency is in using the same professional driver; same surfaces (track, skid pad, strip), typically unprepared; same shifting techniques and the testing is done with at least some thought of the vehicle surviving the tests.
