Please get this back on topic, this thread has NOTHING to do with the GT500, Just the plain old GT... All the talk about the GT500 has nothing to do with the comparison test this thread is about...

I get exactly what you are saying, I just wanted to point out that GM did offer a performance car that wasn't Vette, that was considered for the average joe. And just to throw this out there the GTO was never met to sale to the masses either it was a limited run, so in that case it was similar to what the Challenger is marketed at. So we better not call the Challenger competition either because those don't sell well either..

i wouldnt count the Charger as real competition for the Mustang, though performance wise it was. |

It wasn't that much more. Same price as a 1SS is today. I got mine brand new in 05 for 30275. The GT I wanted at the time was in the 32k price range. So the prices weren't that far off.

![]() Yes sir, I think everyone forgot about the GTO since GM butchered the hell out of it. And I own one , but I actually like the look of the GTO its got a heavy European influence on it and I actually like that type of styling.

No it didn't. First off the LS3 came out in 2008 so thats only two years. While the LS3 is from the LSx series of engines, and parts developers had a head start as well certain parts (superchargers, cams, heads, etc) would basically "bolt on", headers, intakes, etc, anything computer related, and everything else optomized to work with the Camaro's specific setup was not. Even the super and turbo charger couldn't just be "bolted on" because of the computer and related systems are difefrent on the Camaro. if you were watching the site and progress last year it took a few months before there were a lot of aftermarket choices. So yes my statement is correct.

The GTO MSRP'd for 33k with zero options. The only option was the 18" wheels I think right? The mustang started just over 26k back then. That's quite a gap. Meanwhile the cobra had almost exactly the same base price and the mach 1 was still cheaper.

Yes but we all know you never ever have to pay what the MSRP is. And a well optioned Mustang back then like the one I wanted would put you into the 32k range. But its all good I do see what you are staying. Most said the difference was because you was paying extra for way more performance.

Yep the GTO and 04 Cobra were very close in price, but not performance.
