I won't be getting the update. Not because I'm worried about the code, but I can't trust dealerships. The one and only time I had my truck in (2 years ago), they clipped the side of the building...
If I can find someone to come out and do it remotely I may do that but so far no luck.

We actually DON'T know that's what they're doing because GM has refused to release any details on this update. And GM's software design and development is hot garbage... I won't allow anything more to be installed on the Camaro or the Silverado without knowing EXACTLY what issues it addresses and whether those issues are present in my vehicle or not.

My Silverado was 'crashed' by a bad OTA update that fully bricked trucks for a lot of owners (I was actually lucky that I could still start and drive it to the dealership) and then it took multiple visits to get them to actually fix it. Another software update addressed a couple of functional issues I was having but introduced other problems I never had before.

When GM won't tell you anything at all about what they're doing, be very wary.

Have you thought about that or you're just trying to sound semi smart here?

Go have legs elsewhere. There's always gotta b one around huh!
Go wear a tinfoil hat elsewhere, unnecessary paranoia. It's a software update, it's not like you'd understand the technical information anyway.

Actually, you should go wear a Karen hat elsewhere and buzz off.
Again, I don't need your idiotic childish formed opinion because you know nothing about me.
If anything, I understand software more than you do, since I used to write code you dumbi.
Any smart person unlike yourself knows that code is code. It can work on a million vehicles, yet fail on hundreds of vehicles. But your'e too much of an ignorant wanna be bully to know this.
How about just buzz off, keyboard warrior. If you have nothing good to say, just keep it shut!
It's a forum, you child.

I’m not joining the back and forth with you guys…but the one thing agree on here : I’m not updating software for the tranny or for theft protection… until I understand the risk / benefit. My car runs just fine…I need more info - confirmation that what’s being installed actually works.

Someone's here actually started being rude and it wasn't me.

That's exactly my point here. Not hard to understand, but some people like the drama.

My approach exactly, especially after having been burned by allowing GM software updates to occur and cause significant issues. They refuse to provide any actual meaningful information which tells me that this is an update to be wary of.

Same. The attitude is equivalent to victim-blaming / victim-shaming and there is absolutely NO REASON to treat people that way.

I find it fascinating when people seem to believe that us software engineers can just put what we deem technically necessary into an update with zero non-technical supervision.

It does happen, but only in rare cases, otherwise product management, marketing, legal and others decide what will be added or removed by engineering, based on the almighty quarterly ROI and diluted earnings per share they desire or committed to. You think we want to put in all the PII tracking, or nerf down existing capabilities, or slow drip functionality to milk subscribers longer and harder?

Knowing this from the inside, people having reservations isn't "tinfoil hat wearing" or "paranoia", especially when zero information is offered about the contents. Is the fear excessive sometimes, oh yeah, is it unfounded in many cases, you bet, but you went down the other deep end with your comment.

Microsoft Software Engineers are idiots.

Just saying.

Just had my 2021 1LE 6spd done, in and out in under an hour at NW Austin. Uneventful drive home, nothing changed

Did we ever entirely determine what this was for? Did we all settle on the security update concept?

I have a 2023, mine was for the security update only. The wheel lockup issue is up to 2022 only. This is what I was told.
