But how is it "working around skip shift" if that's how I drive anyway? Around town I rarely shift 1-2, there's just no need with over 450 lb/ft of torque. And I wouldn't say you need to punch the gas in order to avoid the lockout.

People make such a big deal about this topic. It's simple, if your driving is impeded by the skip shift, then get the device, no one is stopping you and it's dirt cheap.

My story on this is akin to getting a surprise Christmas gift! I bought my 2018 Hot Wheels 50th 2SS M6 barely used in 2021 with around 1375 miles on it. It’s only a weekend toy, and I’ve known about the SSE for years, and I had a 2010 1SS, that I was planning to install it on, but sold the car first.

Fast forward to 2021, when I purchased my current Camaro. I start driving it here and there, and would see the message come up, that tells you to shift to 4th. I just started driving it like I did my 2010 SS, to work around the issue. Then, one day, I decide to gently try and shift it into to 2nd, just in case the first owner had installed it, where he had installed the GM CAI with tune, and Eureka, Gold!! I wasted about a thousand miles avoiding something that was never there. I had been under the impression that the message would not be there if the SSE had been installed. I discovered that the message still appears, from you wonderful human beings, on the forums. lol. I owe you all for my surprise Christmas discovery!

This is what I was talking about. All that "hrumpf, who wants to shift from 1 to 2 anyway, who taught you to drive - Vin Diesel??" is a viciously trained and ingrained cope.

Lo, the proof. SSAS is real, and the experience with the shift light added is akin to being 'Pavlov's Dog' in those experiments.

Welcome to the club, nay, welcome back to the wide family of people who truly row their own! He - or *it* (the Skipshift) can't hurt you any more!

Lol. I fully agree. It drove me nuts, and was planning on adding the SSE, but when I found it was there, I was thrilled. No matter what you do to cope, it’s still a nuisance.

I agree. If you pause for just a split second you can then put it into 2nd gear with no problem. I could get the eliminator, but it doesn't bother me. It rarely happens, at least the way I drive.

Kinda blows my mind that anyone who’s ever bought a car with CAGS since it debuted in the C4 ZR1 would actually “accept” it.

It ain’t like it’s in a Toyota Prius who’s very reason for existence is to economize every drop of fuel as long as it can possibly go

Egadz, even the Dodge Viper had it.

And it's even goofier than being a gas mileage thing, though someone chime in if I heard it wrong. . . . it's to exploit a specific case/situation in the way the EPA performs its test ritual on a manual car. . . . the tester has to 'bog' out the engine in an area where a real user would be doing something else anyway.

It reminded me of the scandals of how late-'90s graphics cards and their drivers were designed to detect - and cheat on - the performance benchmark tests.

When you search youtube, I *can* find videos describing the bizarre secret-handshake, neutral-switch, or 'accelerate out' tips. What I can't find is anyone doing a 'with/without' skip-shift test for fuel mileage. A difference between the 2 outside of the aforementioned test probably does not exist.

Also, while obviously there are plenty who don't want to crawl under their car to disable skip-shift, I can't imagine any sentient being crawling under their car to *re-enable* skip shift.

With it enabled, you never had a choice and were trained to work around it, which was my point.

Here's a pseudo-scientific test: Disable skipshift, use 2nd for a while, then switch over and start dipping your gaze down when the light comes on and decide. If *every* time the light comes on you then consciously and happily go to 3rd, or 4th, or double-clutch or do the neutral-switch dance, then that's really how you want to drive. If you ignore it and go to 2nd, even once, you've retrained to what you'd want to do with all gears available.

A real sadistic test after using 2nd for a while (I suffer this briefly in my rare instances of getting a new car), crawl under the car and plug the cable back in the way it was and see if you can stand it.

F*** skip shift. I don't care how used to it you get, it likes to pop up that one time at the worst spot. Definitely worth the price of admission.

Pick any of these 3, practice 30 times to develop a new habit, and forget that 1-4 forced shifting even exists.
This was a good tip. Thanks. I drive the 1-3 now and it's smooth and natural. I never have to worry about trying to find 2nd when in a turn, or bogging in 4th.

I’ve used the slight flip to the neutral position then down to 2nd whenever I’ve driven a CAGS car. Never get “gated” and it becomes 2nd nature.

Why? It’s the easiest thing in the world. Why does it crack you up?

Way easier than cutting wires or recalibrating a car.

If accelerating quickly, you’ll shift normally above 3500 and not get gated. If you just pulling from a stop slowly slowly you pull down to the neutral gate and then to second. It’s a nothing.
