i was looking specifically for a 1LE when i bought my car. it was the cats ass in 17 & 18. the 17s scared me a bit with sway bar fastener and steering issues. justified or not, i bought an 18 hoping to avoid these issues. 34k miles and it has been flawless.
if i was looking to get into a camaro now id most likely buy an LT1 model and option it how i wanted. luckily almost all of the parts from other trims easily fit, so something like a wheel or brake upgrade would be very easy to do. i've always been a fan of making a car what you want. if it's made how you want it already, there's no shame in going that route. i did and don't regret any of it.

Guess it’s just a matter of perspective and priorities. The rear rotors and calipers are much larger that’s those of a typical cars rear brake set up. Do the upgraded brakes look better? Sure they do… With that said, I can’t believe I had 3 separate compliments on my car between yesterday and today. I wonder why they didn’t mention the crappy looking calipers? Again, priorities and perspective. Anyway, it may be best to not bash a whole sub set of LT1’s, or for that matter other (s) LT models. I’m sure you didn’t mean it that way, but that’s the way it came across. Let’s just stick with: the upgraded brakes make the car look “even more” special.

I really do love brakes that fill the wheel as much as possible though, I didn't expect the rears on the LT1 to be so small. |

I grabbed an LT1 because at the time the LT1 was almost 10k cheaper in my area. A few things I would've liked from the 1SS and perhaps the 1LE, but I am still happy with my purchase.
If the numbers had worked out differently, I may have had a 1SS 1LE instead. You won't go wrong either way.

There are plenty of take-off rims and rear Brembo's can be had for a decent price. There's more than a few wrecked Camaros out there. Availability and price were the reason for the LT1 here. Replacing a few items that wear out fast anyway isn't such a big deal. After the proper rated tires are installed the speed limiter will be dealt with. |

Are the brakes on the LT1 the same as the drag rear brakes on gm performance parts site?

I think more than a few people passed on the 1LE in the past due to the manual trans being the only thing available.
When I was looking the dealer in Long Beach had at least 5 1LEs all with the auto trans. I didn't see any manuals on the lot or in transit. Its the managements job to order what sells. Don't forget in the process of deciding that any add on bits won't get you any more money on the back end. Yes they may help sell the car quicker, but book value is book value. Price out both trims online and input the same miles. There is the value of the 1LE I think I paid 7,000 for the package. I priced out 2020s and put 15000 miles in. A loaded LT1 with Recaros, NPP ect was valued at 36,122 on the high end Same info on a 1SS with the performance package was 45,872 Both manuals. I had about 8 to 9K in parts on a 15 Mustang GT. Sold it to the first guy who saw it. I got top book value for a GT. Not one penny for the add on parts. The buyer got a great deal and I got a 2SS 1LE. Winning... |
