Alright this proves this has to be a troll thread lol, you're claiming you launched from 6th gear? An auto is literally just stomp the gas and you're gone, I really don't get what the major issue is here? Or how anybody actually manages to lose to a V6 in a car that is pretty much made to be foolproof? And what kind of driving circumstances even require you to always be forced to put it in second gear at idle, I honestly don't get it, if you just drive normal the auto will shift way before the gear ends anyway, so whats the issue, do you always max out the rpms before shifting during normal driving? Like yeah no shit the car doesn't go anywhere in 6th gear at 1k rpms, thats why the auto downshifts to a gear to put you in the power band when you go pedal to the metal. You're literally creating your own problems.

Omg.... I never use auto!!! Before my first thread, I’ve explained that I’ve always had the car in manual mode because of the delay/response thing, I’ve mentioned this over and over, before I knew anything about gears at all back before, I would just constantly up shift over and over when in normal driving, I remember I was in M6 and took off, car went no where and lost badly. Even a stock WRX shouldn’t be able to beat the car that I have, yet it has before. I took it to the dealer because I thought something was wrong, had one of the service people guide me about the car and gears, and drove it like I never did before. I like the power in Auto for sure, the power delivery just isn’t instant, so that’s why I’ve never used it.

I’m gonna wait till my phone is charged and record, I figured out that I can just squeeze the phone between the headrest and seat, the quality sucks because it’s dark, so I’ll still try.

The A8 is among the faster shifting torque converter automatics out there. It is computer controlled and adjusts to driving conditions. It can detect spirited driving and reacts to this, as well as tame things down for normal commuter driving. You also have the selectable driving modes. Put it in sport mode, this will tell the trans to hold the lower gears a little longer to maximize the torque.

As far as the delay, it is a torque converter automatic, and laws of physics demands a slight delay. There are mechanical limits. Even in manual mode the transmission still needs to change gears.

Try this, first, forget the whole recording thing, nobody wants to see that anyway. I would recommend heading to the drag strip on test and tune night. Line it up, foot on the brake and bring the revs up to 2500-3000 rpms. Once the light goes, quickly roll off the brake as you roll on the throttle. Let the trans do it's thing, it will do it better than you. The only thing you'll have to worry about is keeping the car straight.

You just need to work with it a little more. Put the phone away and have some fun. But be safe and be smart, you don't want to end up on one of those "Muscle Car Fail" youtube videos.

Your posts prove to me that everyone should at least learn how to drive a manual. That should eliminate all this foolery of not understanding the bare minimum of how gearing works. Don’t get me wrong, everyone has to start somewhere but IMHO you did a poor job of picking a car to match your skill/knowledge level. Really not trying to be a dick but if you wanted something sporty to learn on you should’ve started with a manual 4 cylinder & worked your way up. As it stands you sound like a danger to yourself & everyone else on the road with you.

Wow you are giving us younger Camaro drivers a bad rep. When driving normally, keep the car in auto mode. Now, when you are trying to let er eat, you should downshift to the correct gear, punch it, and then slap it back in auto mode. For example, if you are rolling at 45 mph, downshift to second or third gear and punch it and put it in auto mode. The car should rip and put you back in your seat. You cant be cruising at 50 in 8th gear and hit the gas and expect the car to downshift to the correct gear immediately......get a hold of yourself.

If you want a manual transmission, get a manual transmission car.

Im pretty sure the lag you are talking about is it downshifting multiple gears. The zl1 would do the exact same thing

For reall...

Complains the auto shifts too slow.
Refuses to leave in auto.
Bitches about losing to EVERYTHING he races because he uses manual mode andnis clueless about gearing
Brings to dealer thinking something is wrong

Regarding the 455lbs torque

I’m beginning to feel like that this car isn’t for me, despite everything I’ve been reading. If I lost to a V6 mustang and much slower cars with a SS, or if I even had a ZL1, I shouldn’t even have a license.
I don’t understand how some of you keep thinking I’m trolling. I’ve been driving it in auto a little more recently and it definitely absolutely without a doubt performs 100x better than I ever have in manual mode. I just don’t like the “long” delay it has when you ask for acceleration, but when it gets past that delay, it really does go, and I’m still learning to control it, I didn’t know 455 torque compared 300 torque from my old 335i was that big of a difference, and I couldn’t imagine the 650hp ZL1 either. I know lots of you dislike me and obviously think this car isn’t for someone my age and lack of knowledge about how gears and cars work in general.
I’d really like to try and set my phone somewhere just to have you guys see what I’m doing wrong.

Look guys, I admit it, this car isn’t for me, for my age and lack of knowledge, and for my young age, but I’m not going to lose an $8,000 down payment I put, and all my past monthly payments to waste. I’m going to keep learning and improving from all the tips and knowledge of the other members/Camaro owners of this website. I get it, the car isn’t for me, and I admit it, but I’m not gonna lose something I love and pay for.

You arent going to notice a big difference in response. Take some of the advice that people have been giving you and take the car to the strip. Try it out in auto and learn the car
