Regarding the 455lbs torque

Hello all, as I am still learning the vehicle and trying to gain more knowledge about how cars and gears work. So I saw on chevy’s site, that the car has 455 lbs torque @ 4400
I’m assuming this means at 4400 RPM.
I also know that more torque generally means better acceleration, but, how would I get the best acceleration off of a roll, sometimes I get good ones while in the lowest gear, and sometimes I don’t, does that mean I should floor it while at 4400 RPM to get the best acceleration possible? I think horsepower usually means high end speed like in the higher RPM range I’m guessing, like 455 HP @ 6000-6500 RPM? How do I get the best acceleration possible off of rolls? I’m still trying to learn it.

Yes, scold me for my lack of knowledge and for having an SS badge.

I know I’m the most inexperienced and noobiest Camaro owner/member on this site, I just wanna keep learning more! I’d love to keep learning more and more from the Camaro family here!

pick the lowest gear/highest rpm you can get traction from. my car is stock. anywhere under 40 it spins so i typically leave in 2nd unless it’s a real slow roll. the engines ability to make tq at low(er) rpm means you can drag it down to 3500-4k and it’ll still leave pretty good.

find some stock LT1 dynographs. it’ll give you a better idea of what’s going on. they make strong tq as low as 2k rpm, which is good for just driving around, i suppose.

He’s back for more!

Drive your car and experiment. I thought in the last thread the consensus was to drive it in automatic for a while.

^ What s346k said. Check out the torque/hp curve below, you'll see that while 4400 rpm does yield max torque, you don't want to floor it at that rpm in this car, because you'll immediately go onto the heavy downward slope of the torque curve.

I'd say shoot for 3300-3500, that is, flip the lever to manual mode, shift down to the gear that puts you into this rpm range (might need to adjust your pedal position a bit), floor it, then flip the gear lever back to D before you hit the rev limiter (!) and just keep the pedal floored. The A8 will power shift for you and keep you in the powerband as much as it can.

Of course, you should never exceed any applicable speed limit while doing so, and experiment with no cars, crossroads, pedestrian crossings, medians etc. around. You don't want to be that guy.

I say put a supercharger on it and then it really doesn't matter what rpm anymore.

I will definitely need to record some pulls and dig launches to expirement, I was earlier, and yes, no one was around me, I promise, it was dark and no cars around on the highway
SR-54 here in Florida. It’s oki if they dislike me after my previous thread, mainly for me calling the car pathetic in the title on a Camaro forum, I definitely understand their hate/dislike towards me, it’s oki, I have no friends anyway really, but I mainly called it pathetic because I was upset at all the bad pulls I was getting due to my inexperience and all the money I put down towards it, and thought the car was just slow.
I’m still trying to get good pulls but can’t seem to, like the guy from the dealer that showed me when I was sitting with him.
I put back my K&N and still can’t pull the car like he did

Just keep it in Auto.

I dont have a issue just leaving mine in sport or track mode and just mashing her to the floor and letting the car itself down shift. Mine seems to downshift correctly for me. I have had times I thought another lower gear would have been better but in your situation just get out and practice with what gear at what speed gives you the best acceleration.
Practice, practice and more practice.
All in all.....Just drive the darn thing in automatic it works great that way !!!

Oh, I know that it does, I just hate the lack of immediate power
Idk how a ZL1 responds compared to the SS’s

Nothing, but please don’t act like a drop in air filter is going to make a noticeable difference.

I mean, it’s alright, but I’ve heard some CAI’s without tunes that made these cars lose power.
