It wasn't intended to be scientific. Just a bit of info showing that it isn't a huge difference and not worth the exorbitant price tag unless you like the underhood look or extra sound. FYI...it is more informative than the worthless post you have provided.

After 1/4 mile racing dozens of cars over the past 25 years I'd say the Roto-Fab added approx 10RWHP to my bone stock 1,100 mile 2017 ZR1 A10.
It added a bit more blower whine, but overall not too sure if it was really worth almost $500. Seems as if all auto parts vendors over the past decade recession are using fantasy dyno numbers in hopes guys like us will help them out of their financial crisis. IMHO, Any Cold Air Intake that has the honeycomb and doesn't require a tune, will be limited on horsepower that can be gained.
I imagine with the Stock computer settings, you may pick up around 5 hp +/- on a NA car and alittle more on a ZL1. My purchase of the Weapon X Intake had more to do with looks and sound, I'm waiting until they get their full carbon intake done and then I'll get my ZL1 tuned by Weapon X also. |

Your post would be as arbitrary as racing a stock ZL1 against a TM T-Body equipped ZL1 & saying the Throttle Body is not worth it as the outcome of the race has more Variables then just the Modification.

Just to be clear, my point of posting was as much about the actual "no tune" verification as it was about the hp. I only even went to the dyno because I wanted to double check and make sure the air/fuel really was ok like Rotofab claims. Whether the intake is worth it or not is subjective. I don't think most parts are "worth it". When I first started modding my 03 Cobra an upper pulley could be had for $75, lower for $300, headers for $1000, cat back for $500, CAI for $150-200. I think the Rotofab looks good, sounds cool, and adds about 5-10 hp untuned. That's ok with me in this particular scenario, because I wasn't looking for anything more. We've all heard that CAI's need to be tuned to get max benefit, so this thread should not surprise anyone to the point where the value of Rotofab is questioned any more than it should've been before. I'd just never seen anything concrete on these on otherwise stock cars, so I figured it would be cool to share the info.

LOL...Damn kids relax, it's starting to sound like LS one GTO.com in here.
OP, thanx for verifying the "no tune required" for RotoFab CAI's. |

I know this post was started strictly with the 6th gen ZL1 in mind, but I just wanted to share my experience with the Rotofab on my 5th gen ZL1. After making back to back passes on the dyno with my car bone stock, we installed the Rotofab CAI to see what the gains would be. The car picked up 13 rwhp(I can't remember the torque). I would expect similar gains with the new Z...perhaps more...maybe less. I was able to match my best time with the Rotofab after putting the stock airbox back on. To be fair, though, that time was matched on another day. When doing same day testing, I picked up .15 with the Rotofab, but that was on my best 60' of the day.
I currently have the Rotofab sitting in a box for the new car, I just wanted to get the quickest pass I thought I could run while remaining stock before finally installing it. Now that I've achieved my goal, I may be putting it on sooner than later.
