Camaros are being targeted

Hey just a heads up to my fellow Camaro owners especially in Dallas, TX and Los Angeles, CA v8 Camaros are being targeted extremely bad this summer apparently they’re easier to steal than mustangs, chargers, and challengers. My 2SS was stolen from my home at 3pm on a Monday it just got recovered Friday after being gone 2 weeks tracking was ripped out passenger window busted out onstar ripped out they put a fake plate on it changed it from black to blue. I’m happy to have it back she’s going to a shop Wednesday getting repaired, a kill switch, neutral lock, OBD II port lock, new upgraded tracking, and new louder alarm that sends updates to my phone. When I posted about my stolen Camaro there was at least 5 other Camaros that were also stolen and the cop that did my report said he’s been getting a lot of reports of Camaros and similar type of cars being stolen right now in Dallas so be aware of your surroundings and if you haven’t yet get kill switches and other anti theft devices installed this summer is starting off crazy and it’s only going to get worse. The only reason my car wasn’t stripped was because the guy who stole it planned to do a ZL1 swap on it.

Unfortunately, this has been going on for well over a year...

There was a recent GM Security Update for it that everyone thinks helps with this issue but may not completely solve it...

Does anyone know why? Mine is a 2016. Is it because it doesn't have the vulnerability, or because GM doesn't think it's important since the car is older?

It’s not that it’s any easier to steel it’s just the preferred vehicle for now. In this area it’s Dodge Hellcats. I watched a local video of a car thief get in a Challenger Hell Cat started and stole it in less than 30 seconds. I don’t think you can get any easier to steal than that.

The computer or module or something about the programming being easier to update at least that was the explanation I got from a Chevy dealership near me. Even the 2019s can’t get the new updates but they have the A10 trans sucks we have to go through so much to secure these cars but I still wouldn’t trust the update solely only a matter of time before thieves find a work around

That’s about how quick my Camaro was stolen I heard the alarm and the mere seconds it took for me to get to my balcony to check I heard my car starting up and driving off

Mine was stolen in Dallas on Oct 2023. The car was recovered after about one week, with a driver in it along with him having a gun and a fake tag on it. He was already out on bond for other felony car thefts. My car was stock, all white so you can see what they did to it, along with cutting the mufflers off. Basically he was processed and released back into the wild like the animal he is. I found out just a few months ago he was caught again with a stolen car, yet again the Dallas criminal system just lets them off with no punishment. He probably stole your car too, his name is Corey Hicks

Sounds like the same guy after he stole my car he tried to sell it on his snap for $2500 someone told me about him trying to sell my car so I messaged him and he was hesitant to talk to someone he didn’t already know said he’s been arrested a couple of times for stolen cars and didn’t want to risk being set up.
It’s crazy how they just keep letting them go back out to continue doing the same thing but then again the police department is benefiting from their crimes I had to pay a $300 impound fee to get my stolen and damaged car back
