Shift Light

I bought a Proform shift light and can't figure out how to wire it. I thought I could get the signal from the #1 coil. I watched a You tube video where someone hooked op a Phastek shift light to the #1 coil harness.

Did not work so now I'm wondering where to get the signal required for the shift light. Any help out there??

those are two different brands. they may wire up differently from one another. did yours not come with instructions?

Looks like a standard hook up. Black to ground, red to battery or 12V key on, and green wire to one of your coil wires that’s green for your RPM signal.

I recall the shift light not being straight forward on our cars. Here’s some information from other members.

Well i am sure if you use the green wire off the coil (#1 cylinder) you will get your RPM Signal and if for some reason the type of shift light requires it to be pinned to the PCM. Then the RPM Signal: Pin 48 @ PCM Connector. (White wire)s

Tried to use the connector from the #1 cylinder coil but didn't work. I'm thinking maybe the crank sensor or the PCM. Not sure so I'm lost for now.

Try this. https://www.holley.com/products/acce...ers/parts/8918

“ Just think of the things you can easily accomplish with our GMR Pickup! This little device simply attaches, with no splicing or cutting, to a current carrying wire and turns that information into a 12 volt rpm signal. This signal can be used to activate a shift light, rpm activation switch or a tachometer. One example is to connect the GMR, which stands for Giant Magnetoresistive, to a diesel injector current wire.”

Does the 8918 work for our cars?

Has anyone used the MSD 8918 (GMR pickup) to drive a shift light? I tried on al 4 wires on one coil and no go, so I am trying the MSD 8913 now.

Thanks in advance!

I just got the Holley Sniper light. Plugs into the OBD2 port. Then program and done.

Comes in different color lights and body colors.https://www.summitracing.com/parts/s...+5d9b7742bfddc

Thanks. My OBD2 port is occupied by my P3 gauge most of the time and HP Tuners the rest of the time. Splitters don’t work, they freak out the computer and it throws all kinds of errors in the dash cluster.
