Have You Ordered A New ZL In The last 6 Months?

I have been watching ZL1 prices on Auto Trader, Cargurus.com and Cars.com for a long time. Originally I was going to buy a ultra low mile used car and came close on a couple but did not pull the trigger in time and lost out. I have also paid attention to new pricing especially hold over cars. Last fall around black Friday there were some what I would call incredible deals on new 19's but again they were gone quickly. I thought between winter, the new Corvette coming out and covid that there would be some deals to be had. Well the exact opposite has happened. Used prices are way up, GM incentives are not what they used to be and online pricing is at or just below MSRP. Heck not even seeing online dealers stacking incentive hardly anymore. I have now been thinking I will order a 2021 and get the exact car I want. I called my local small town dealer yesterday and happened the owner picked up my call. Had a discussion with him on pricing if I order a ZL1. He told me how the ZL1 and Corvettes are special cars and expect to pay at or near MSRP. I see Chevrolet Trucks at 15-20% off. I saw on this site somebody just ordered a LT and only got 4% off. I also tend to see ZL1LE's with better discounts but for me it will be a ZL1. I would have to believe that GM has the margins and incentives a lot tighter on the Camaros than a truck. I would prefer to by local but would I be better off at a Dealer that sells a high volume of ZL's? What was your experience with ordering?

Camaro supply is way down right now due to the virus, and conversely there are tons of trucks available(I guess they just made more). I too want to buy a 6th Gen in the near future, the current market made me realize I need to wait for supply to return before I can get a good deal though.

I too have noticed that all cars in this segment have seen an increase these past few weeks. I think what is happening is that people are looking to sell high right now. Give it a few months and those prices are gonna start dropping like bricks. Basically people are gonna have to unload unnecessary items when the fallout from this Pandemic hits. When that happens you'll have to strike fast before others snatch them all up. For now just keep an eye out. Wait as long as possible but not too long. When you come across a smokin hot deal, take a stab.

Sellers market right now for used / new cars, unfortunately, for buyers. Lots of causative factors contributing to this, but it is what it is, for now. May have to wait this one out to get what you want at the price you feel is reasonable.

This.

We are seeing inflation across almost every market.

I also entertained new once again, but virtually no incentives nor better financing. At $10k off a new one for a like-new vehicle is hard to resist. On the flip side I drove my SS for 2yrs & it cost me $500 (not including maintenance items & the exhaust I put on it when I didn’t think the ZL1 was in the cards).

When looking to buy in Feb more than a few people I respect told me to wait, the killer deals were just around the corner.
Seeing I am 67 waiting is not a very good option. Found the exact car I was looking for equipped with the options I wanted at $5K under MSRP so bought it around the first of March.
If you would of bought one last year during black Friday you would of had almost a happy year of ownership.
You can always make more money, you can't make more time.
PS: Had a C8 on order and cancelled it to buy the Z. No doubt in my mind I made the right choice.

I tried to buy a 2020 ZL1 1le new. Most dealers were at msrp with chevy offering a $1500 rebate. Finally found a dealer to discount 4.5% on a $77350 car plus the rebate. Ended up ordering a 2021 at that discount but no rebate. Hopefully when the car comes in there will be one.

There are some used beauties on this site being sold for decent prices. The way most of the Z owners are I wouldn’t hesitate on buying one used. I keep my car as prestige as possible. Hand washed by me with nothing but the best in products. I never take it out in the rain. Unfortunately for buyers I’m not selling. I’m sure there are others that take care of their car the same.

I bought my 2017 last year in March for around $14,000 off sticker because it was used with less than 500 miles. I considered it still a new car when I bought it since it had so few miles and was well taken care of by the original owner. Of course that was 2019 and not now. The owner of the dealership was right when he told you about ordering a ZL1 in that you would pay retail price because it’s a special order. If you find one in dealer stock close to what you are looking for they can give you a little bit better deal but there’s only so much wiggle room on the prices of the ZL1s and ZLEs unless it’s at the end of the year and time for the 2021s to start showing up on the dealer lots. If you special order though you can get exactly the ZL1 you want! Good luck.

I think with the pandemic and all that's going on ZL1 prices will stay up ! 1st ths factory not meeting demand, I believe only a small percentage of people are looking for ZL1 as a whole, more people are looking at C8s, but there behind at plants. Untill we get a vaccine, who knows when things will get to normal, 2021-2022 ? I dont see that many used ZL1's for sale in Texas, and the ones I see on cargurus are above book value, and most still dont last long, I contacted the previous owner of my car a year ago when I found his number in the glove box, 2 months ago he contacted me wanting to buy it back, I thought about it for a few seconds, but said no, he put 10K in extras on it, was that why he wanted it back ? I believe that was a small part of it, But the biggest factor was you cant find any and if you do, your going to pay a heavy price tag
new car prices for used cars. I should have paid a few thousand less for mine, but with all the extra it was worth it !

The reality of the Market is a culmination of several things.
1. The UAW GM Strike. Once again the greedy union shut down GM to demand more pay then they are worth and free healthcare which literally nobody in America has unless they have VA care... That caused inventories to shrink at a rapid pace.
2. Enter COVID. GM had not recovered inventory levels from the strike and now they were shut down again. For corvette this meant less than half of the cars in system (sold orders) actually got built.
3. Supplier Shutdowns. GM doesn't make many parts in-house... many suppliers shut down and some even went out of business causing some options to be put on constraint from GM.
4. Robust Economy Buyers are out there. Many people are working from home but they are still working. Some saw a savings due to lack of commute. Interest rates are at historic lows. People are refinancing and taking money of their homes and buying cars. That means demand is far outpacing Dealer inventories. Several Dealers here don't have a single truck on their lot, much less a Camaro.

5. I currently have a 2020 ZL1 1LE and have a new 21 Camaro ZL1 1LE that is built and bayed in Detroit awaiting transport. Cars are last priority on rail which is completely backed up. Some ports closed or partially closed which caused vehicles from Mexico to experience major delays.

The ZL1 1LE does not go on rail. (The aero causes it to not fit on rail cars) so those cars have to wait on Semi Haulers to bring them to their destination. Problem there is delays in some areas (fires in the west) and a lack of available carriers.

If you need connected with a dealer in the Seattle Area (not sure where you are from) I'm happy to help. But the reality is Demand far outpaces supply and MSRP is the market price for the foreseeable future.

There isn't much to pick from in MN as far as new at what used to be normal prices. But there are quite a few used ones including mine that are good deals. I have my 17 priced at $45k but no takers yet.
