ZL1 Max dB
I was at Laguna Seca for the first time in my stock exhaust ZLE Friday and Saturday, with no Laguna pipes, and the games I played to avoid blowing the sound limit weren't much fun.
I was lifting at the sound booth but still had to find a creative way to avoid my 3rd strike for the weekend. At a 92 dB event, my car registered 94-96 more than once and I was lifting in 4th at part throttle. Anyone know what the max dB is in 3rd at WOT? I have a 103 dB event coming up at Sonoma, do STOCK EXHAUST ZL1s ever go over 103 dB at WOT? |

I run my Camaro at Sonoma and have never had any warnings. I think you’ll be fine. Maybe sound dude at LS has a Porsche and a slower lap time

Wow, why are they so strict? And 92db is nothing.

i think its so dumb that we have to worry about a sound limit at a freaking race track!! just like people that complain about airplane sounds that live close to lax lol come on what did you expect !!!

I think the sound limitation is imposed by the city, not the track.

Being a 4th generation California native, I am honestly starting to become numb to the everyday absurdity that keeps this state on the cable news gag reel, but for whatever reason, this topic sets me off every time.
If you buy a house near a: Airport Race track Oil refinery/Chemical plant Industrial/manufacturing center Waste treatment plant Prison Flood control basin And you try to bring the law to bear against these institutions AFTER the fact for effects that you may have reasonably expected to be possible, then you are a fairly complete moron, OR an attorney working for one. Many people will live their entire lives without consciously realizing that much of the reason their home sweet home was SO reasonably priced was precisely because of its proximity to a place many would choose not to live next to. /end rant |

Laguna Seca takes the sound levels very seriously. You should be fine at Sonoma or Thunderhill with stock exhaust.
I haven't taken mine yet, but I expect to be able to run a 103db event at Thunderhill without any problems and I've got an AWE catback. |

Yeah, going to 4th gear isn't enough. I would go to 6th or 7th gear and very little throttle as well as going off line away from the sound booth. A lot of it depends on wind direction, temp and humidity all come into play with the way the sound travels. I think at wide open throttle it's 98-100db so you should be fine on a 103db day.

I was lifting all day at T5 last week and gave it the beans in 4th and registered 93.8db.
You’ll be fine at Sonoma and thunderhill. I don’t think that they actively monitor like they do at Laguna. |

I can live with Laguna Seca's restriction, it's the only track in CA with a sub 100 dB restriction and I only go there 1-2 times a year. I have 8 amazing circuit tracks I can drive to in CA within half a day, 4 within 2 hours--not including the Porsche Experience center 45 minutes away, or the tracks in Las Vegas only a few hours away.
All 8 tracks are open year round, and are actually better in the winter. Add to that I can stop for some of the best surfing or skiing in the world on my way home. Late at night if I'm still jonesing for some driving fun, I hop in my car and head up to one of the best canyon roads in LA less than 10 minutes away. California isn't perfect, but I can't complain. |
