ZL1 Snow Tires

Has anyone driven a ZL1 in the snow yet? I would ideally like to drive my car during winters in the Northeast, but obviously need new tires to do so.

As far as i can tell the stock 20in wheels with 305s in back can't fit any kind of snow tires (or even all season's for that matter) so I would need to get a whole new wheel/tire package. Has anyone downsized tires/wheels to fit a snow tire, without upsetting the traction control computers?

Any feedback would be helpful, or if you guys can recommend someone to contact who could help me with this. Is this just a stupid idea in the first place? If there is decent amount of snow I probably wouldn't drive the car but would like a set of wheels i can drive when its cold out.

Thanks for the help.

I bought some DWS06 Continental for my gen 6 SS mounted on 20" SS wheels.. they were an excellent winter/snow tire and I kept those wheels (extra set).. They fot on the ZL1 (already tried) though need spacers to look esthetically more pleasing in front...

Not true, there's the pirelli winter sottozero 3 I think will fit on the original wheels.

Thats a nice thread. I never saw it and did all my own calcs. Essentially the centerline of the rims are the same from ZL1 to ss, but the ss tires are skinnier obviously.. I'm also using gen6 5 spoke silvers for winter - I have blizzaks on them already from the SS I traded in.

I know wheel sizes do not throw off the computers. I run 19's for track. No issues with any systems.

I am in the Northeast also and will be getting snows. Below 40 degrees, the summer tires are hard as a rock. I am thinking 19" at maybe 245 square. Thinner tires do better in the snow. I will probably be using PK Auto Design to figure this out. They did a great job with my track wheels and tires.

What's your track setup, if you don't mind me asking?

I'd think that the width of the tire itself, no matter the thread, would make this car useless during winter months?

So I can run a square setup with smaller wheels without throwing off any of the cars computers?

In order to not upset the ABS, Steering and Traction Control systems, you need to keep the wheel/tire assembly diameter the same. For the wheels, as long as they clear the brakes, you can compensate the overall diameter with the tire size. I havent looked yet, but Im sure sites like Tirerack, Discount Tire, Tire Buyer, Tread Depot etc can help out easily. Personally, Im a HUGE fan of Nokians and recommend to everyone.

Whats more useless, it sitting in a garge hooked up to a tender, or driving it just a bit slower around town?!

I'd think that these cars are a secondary option for travel, with most , if not all having a more functional choice as a daily driver.
-I'd also prefer not to expose the undercarrige to road salt or brine which here in Pennsylvania are well known for.
-I also find it odd that one can afford a $65,000 car, yet doesn't have a $10,000 beater for daily/rain/winter driving.
-Useless is trying to navigate through 2''+ of snow and risking yourself, your car or someone else in the process.
-Tender

Yes, The Pirelli Winter Sottozero3 is still available in both 285/30R20 and 305/30R20. Oddly, if you shop by vehicle on Tirerack, its says there are no tires available. If you look up each size individually, it shows both are available.

To my comment earlier about Nokians, only the front 285/30R20 is available in either the Hakkapeliitta 8 or R2. I dont know if I'd run four 285's square, as theres a nearly 2% circumference difference between 285/30R20 and 305/30R20, especially since there is a manufacturer that you can get the correct sizes from.
