Refusing dealer adds

Sorry if this was posted.. I tried a search and kept getting a blank page.

If I order a vehicle do I have the option of preventing a dealer from adding things such as $900 tint or a $800 alarm?

Everything involving money is always negotiable.

If you negotiate a final price before you order then it seems like that would prevent the dealer from changing the deal and adding options.

Absolutely if its not already installed, they cant make you install it. Typical dealer bs. Your guard should be up for other fees and crap added on later too. Get it all in writing and check it over carefully before signing

Thanks everyone the dealer kept saying they "always put them an all vehicles with no exception" guess I'll have to fight them or go elsewhere.

Go see the general manager and ask him straight out. Some sales managers can't even make the decision to sell a bare car. If the gen mgr says you must, then you can tell him you're going elsewhere.

My situation is a bit different because GM offered me a collateral swap. The dealership didn't want to give up their 1le but i had the option of ordering a new one, I am concerned that they will order it and slap on the adds when it arrives so they make some money as GM sponsored swaps result in $0 commission.

So go see the gen mgr, he knows more about what they will do vs us....if GM is involved I doubt they will pack the car.

I asked but she wasn't willing to do the order as the dealership gets no commission and there would be transport costs to AZ.

If it's a car that is already on their lot, and those items are already installed, I think you would have a hard time asking the dealer to undo that. However, if you order the car, I would make it a stipulation that they do nothing to the vehicle when it's delivered. I would even go as far as instructing them to not even peal off any of the protective plastic wrap or touch the car in any way other way than to park it.

That is what I am going to shoot for, I need to negotiate the final numbers with GM and as a part of that I intend to have alignment between myself, GM, and the dealership that the final numbers that I agree to will not be adjusted post delivery with dealer additions.

Dealer still gets paid to do the swap don't let them BS you into adding items. Collateral swaps still count as retail unit for the dealer, they get paid on it.

Well, you already ruled out going to a reputable salesman like Becky, so I'd say just make sure you get it in writing as you place the order, and make sure you see the order sheet. If the GM has signed off on paper that there will be no addons, you can throw that back in his face later if he tries anything.
