Ford adds pedestrian detection system for Mustang this fall

Will the 2018 Camaro match the pony on safety? We'll find out in April...

Quote:
Ford is introducing some interesting future technology for the 2018 F-150 and Mustang.
A bumper-mounted radar and a windshield-mounted camera will scan the road ahead and convey information to a new Pedestrian Detection system.
It will be able to alert the driver of pedestrians in the path of the vehicle both day and night,
automatically applying brakes if the driver doesn't heed the system warnings.

^--- This guy. It's funny because Mustang owners like to kill people while leaving cars & coffee. Nothing to do with phones and everything to do with not knowing how to drive their car.

Will it shut the car off when leaving an event preventing spinouts into the crowds ? If not it's just a radar for plowing them over from what I see them doing....

I think Mustangs are just inherently dangerous and any of you who own one should get rid of it fast before you hurt someone.

Only one reason for this, European safety standards.

I don't think you'd see this on the camaro anytime soon. GM doesn't sell enough of them to justify the cost.

Cost has nothing to do with it. Remember the Mustang has a major market in Europe which severely rates down cars without this kind of protection now. That's the only reason to have it until the US follows suit.

Now in a couple of years I bet FCA tech becomes a requirement here, but don't see pedestrian detection becoming a concern anytime soon here.

Wow, I don't know if we really want to share the roads with people that are so inattentive they are likely to run into a pedestrian. I just looked at the numbers and it looks like it averages around 4,500 pedestrians killed per year in the US. That was more than I was guessing.

I'm not really in favor of technology that may lull a driver into a sense of security to the point they aren't paying enough attention.

Camaros also don't hurl themselves into crowds of people either.
