Can nav be added later on?

Just wondering if it can be added to cars on the lot that don't have it..

I would imagine you could install the factory system but it would not be cost effective. You would pay $450 if you got it from the factory and would probably pay three or four times that for parts and labor. If you really want navigation, I would go aftermarket. Or depending on what trim you are getting, you may have apple car play and could use maps from your phone on your infotainment center.

Plus you need to purchase the gps antenna take apart the dash to install it and then get a dealer to reflash the computer with another vin to get all of the functionality

I'm sure Ofer can do it.

Just wondered if it were something simple. I believe in the Charger the hardware is there and it basically needs to be enabled.. Which they charge you for.

You guys may want to read through the discussion on this thread. Glen's car for some reason shows speed limit info but doesn't have NAV (which I'm 98% sure is the source of the info). His car also hasn't been reflashed since he got it. My guess is if he does, he will lose the speed limit info. Which of course begs the questions, is NAV only software this gen.

Also the car already has a GPS antennae, how else would you get OnStar directions that would be useful? Cellular location helps, but needs GPS to provide real time navigation.

That's probably the biggest reason it wouldn't be worth it unless it's a cheap software upgrade by someone in the aftermarket.

Onstar uses a different antenna. There is usually a separate gps antenna that goes up under the dash for the nav infotainment system. I have looked into doing this in other gm vehicles. Also this thread wasnt about adding speed limit to anything it was about adding the nav unit after the fact. A reflash will be needed to have everything work properly. Also about the speed limit in the hud and dic i wonder if people without nav has the info page for speed limit in thier dic options. If they do then they probably just need to turn on to get it working.

OnStar uses a 4G LTE antennae and not a separate GPS one. Why would you put 2 GPS antennaes on a car anyway?

As I said, speed limit info in almost every other brand utilizes navigational maps (BMW uses a camera to read the signs). Otherwise the car would have to keep a separate road map database with this info. Again why would have two databases with the same info?

No one I have seen but Glen has Speed info in the DIC/HUD in a car without NAV. Given all the issues with have seen with myLink already, that is why my guess is his car got out of the factory with an overflash issue. So he has features he wasn't supposed to have but at the same time doesn't have the NAV option in myLink. Just a theory and he wants to stay away from a dealer reflash to start with.

How did you find out? Different P/Ns or model numbers?

Even if my Camaro had factory nav, I would still use Google Maps via my phone.

PS
Apple is junk. You couldn't pay me to use OEM nav or any of the crap from Apple.
Apple car play & maps got me through the entire Find New Roads trip, since the 1SS I got didn't have navigation. First experience with car play, and I was quite pleased!

I hate apple maps.. But all I have to use, so it is what it is... And car play is not that great..

I hate how I get the phone myself and open a. Message and the car starts reading the message... If I pick the phone up by hand it should know that I want to read and not be told the message..
