NPP fuse pull sound

Anyone that has done the fuse pull for the NPP exhaust - I know there is a sound difference, but how noticeable is it? I understand the valves are fully open all the time. Does it sound louder during lower RPMs and cruising speeds?

Louder at cruise for sure, not so much difference at lower RPM's and while accelerating. You may not like the drone of them open all the time. The stock open/close algorithm is actually pretty good.

Check out this video. It indicates the NPP has four modes selected by what mode the car is set to, i.e. STEALTH, TOUR, SPORT, TRACK, and lets you hear the difference. The NPP is most aggressive in "TRACK" mode and I assume that is what you'd get if you pulled the fuse.

EDIT: It appears that "TRACK" mode does not open the valves all the time (they will close if it goes into AFM and in other scenarios) so my assumption is incorrect.

At about 5:20 in the video he states that "track" mode is the most aggressive with the baffles fully open all the time. Isn't that what pulling the fuse would do?
If you know differently could you enlighten us please?

There are more than a few inaccuracies in that (somewhat confusing) Video.

Putting the car in track mode will result in it defaulting to Tour on a restart. It does not remain in Track, though it will in Sport.

In every acceleration test video'd, notice how the car quiets at cruise. This is the algorithm I spoke of that turns the valves down at cruise no matter what the mode.

If track kept the valves open ALL THE TIME there would be no need or discussion regarding the fuse pull.

Personally I can't detect any exhaust differences between Track and Sport in normal driving. Mode select affects much more than just the exhaust.

Well, the first part of the statement is true. The second part of the statement is partly true. Pulling the fuse keeps the valves completely open all of the time whereas track mode will modulate the valves to eliminate/reduce drone.

It's a common mistake, but what occurs to me is how many post that " why pull the fuse when track will do it ? "

Hundreds here do it, so I assumed it had to be diff as the people that were pulling usually knew more about the car than I did, like Modshack and jimmypop......

How big is the fuse? Can maybe just put a switch to it so you can just change it on the fly.

It's a 15 amp fuse. You can easily wire in a manual switch to that fuse Using a fuse tap and switch, or you ca do it wirelessly with a $17 wireless switch like in this post: http://www.camaro6.com/forums/showthread.php?t=437448

The problem I see with the wireless is that the switch defaults to open whenever power is removed requiring you to activate the remote to get it back to stock at every start-up. A simple on/off switch eliminates that issue and is likely what I will do, just because I can. I doubt I'll run it much that way though..

They make a kit to manual operate the npp, bypassing the fuse is a good way to burn the car down, also I have read people have pulled the fuse and after a couple of months the valves get rust on them and stop working for lack of use.
