Camaro Detachable Key (Glove compartment lock)

The new 6th gen Camaro keys have two pieces, one is the remote and there is another part that is an L-shaped silver car which can come apart and is used to solely lock the glove-compartment box.

I've recently lost the L-shaped portion of the key and was wondering if I were to purchase another regular Camaro key-piece from online if it would be compatible with my glove compartment lock or if each Camaro has a separate keyhole and won't work?

That is not just a key for your glove box. That key is for your drivers door. There's a "hidden" lock under the smaller portion of the door handle. Look under your door handle, there is a slot for that key to go.

1. With the car locked, pull out on the door handle.
2. Insert the key in the slot and pry outward. The little handle piece (cap) will pop off. Remove the small cap.
3. The lock will now be exposed.
4. Use the key to unlock the drivers door.

My manual states "See your dealer if a new key is needed."

Warning: If you drop the lock cap on the ground and it lands on concrete, it will get scratched up and look terrible. It is made of a very soft plastic.

You don't have to ask how I know this....

Oh and the cap is ridiculously expensive to replace.

I replaced the cap because the cheap plastic has little tabs inside which broke off because it’s so hard to get it on right and I had to jump start car like every day. But it was between $60-80 I think. They have to paint it too which is included in price I stated.
