Question BAD trunk rattle with installed sub? Maybe because rear-facing?

Just curious for those of you who have a subwoofer installed in your trunk, do you have a really bad rattle?

It seems to be coming from the wheel panels evenly on both sides somehow... I haven't got around to taking everything apart to find the culprit, so figured I'd just see if anyone has experienced and fixed the issue before I go tearing apart the back of the car...

Also as a side note, has anyone found better sound and less rattle from facing it forward? Currently got mine facing the rear. Just curious if it makes any difference before moving it all around as well.

I found no rattle, but I only have 300 Watts on a 10" sub, it will vary if you have a lot of power and subs in there.

I would install some Dynamat and Dynapad before you shake it all loose, it just makes me mad to have a rattling car, ha, ha.

On the other hand, facing your sub in different directions may in fact give you a better sound and less rattle, please let us know what you find out.

Some pictures of the sound insullation I did on the car.

Wow that is a LOT of work you did there!! I'll see if anyone else chimes in before I start tinkering with everything. I have 2 12's with 500 watts.

Upwards facing sub.

I used to have the sub also facing backwards in the trunk. After moving it around I found out that there is a little rattle that way. Than can be eliminated placing the sub in horizontal position firing upwards, and I also like the sound better. So I fixed it to the notch in the rear seat, it is very easy to relocate if needed, and I still have a good pass thru and lots of trunk space. I will live with it like this for a while, I think it is the best solution. I also put some tie down rings in there for a more usable trunk. Here are some before and after pictures.

Hmm that's very interesting. I tried putting it at a 45 degree angle and that actually made the rattle more apparent than just regular as far back in the trunk as possible and facing rearward. Almost thinking the rattle is the NPP valves? That's how even it is..

I to have the same rattle you are describing coming evenly from both wheel panels. I have not been able to locate the cause. If you have any success in finding the culprit on both sides please post your findings.

thanks
Matt

The wheel panels feel very flimsy, may be they need some Dinamat. Or we should look for some loose components under the panels and trunk.

Well, because I'll be sending the MTX Terminator box back because one woofer froze and the other works, decided to try it front-facing, and the sound was cleaner and less trunk rattle!!! Just purchased a box from thump of sub for front facing! Now just need to figure out what subs to buy for it. Unsure if it has the wires inside the box that connect to the woofer though.

I have three tens with 1,000 watt mono to the subs and have very little rattles. I have one on the right side by the rear speaker area. I haven't tracked it down yet but it is very minor. The car has had significant dynomat though.

Damn you're lucky then. I haven't got any dynomat, but plan to eventually buy some for the doors that's have a HORRIBLE rattle of plastic on metal.

They basically took my car apart for weeks so they addressed where they thought the rattles may happen.

I believe it I just don't got the time or money for all that right now. Did they find any rattle in the side wheel wells? When I faced it to the rear I had a HORRIBLE rattle from somewhere in there. Not sure what it was.

I have that rear rattle even with the stock system. GM seriously blew it on the interior assembly. I must have 5 rattles. Luckily they all only happen under certain conditions so it's not constantly grating on me. I'm actually afraid to add a sub.
