Ended up putting mine back in. Definitely prefer it with the foam back in. You hear less resonance in the cabin while also getting more exhaust noise.

Seems like everyone likes it at first with the foam out but
later decides to put it back in.

One person reported a foam stopper depth of 1 3/4 inch
One person reported a foam stopper depth of 1 1/8 inch
Clearly the depth of these foam stoppers vary in depth.

I am surprised no one is playing around with different foam
stopper depths to see if they can tune the sound..

Still have mine out. Mine was bunched up and kept that shape after I took it out. I had to use a 5" hemostat to get it out, so I think it was at least 3" deep. When 4 Cylinder mode kicks in it does sound bad...

M6 SS convertible here! I like it you don't hear any thing till around 4500 with the pedal down, when your making power you can now hear it! My foam insert was two inches approximate

anyone know if the foam is also in there to keep unwanted air from entering the system AFTER the maf sensor?

I have an A8 so I know I'll hear the dreadful noise when it drops into V4 mode. But I also know my exhaust is way quieter than other 2LTs I have driven. I haven't taken mine out yet but I will probably cut the depth as opposed to yanking it out completely.

So the depth range is now 1 1/8" all the way up to 3" !!

It also looks like some people have solid looking cylinder shaped piece of foam while others look like they have a folded up sheet of foam that was just shoved in there.

Yes the V6 has a sound tube for sure. I have the V6 and took the foam out.
I, like some others, will be putting it back in. When the foam is out, I hear
too much suffering/moaning kind of noise when the car is driven lean to
conserve gas.

Where’s it at in V6 any pic or vid?

Assuming you guys don’t have any exhaust work done? I can def see V4 causing it to sound like trash, but with it disabled and having exhaust work done it shouldn’t sound that bad?...

A lot louder and it is also changing the tone from the inside of the car. I would say less raspy now, probably because I not only hear the exhaust now and this is something very nice. I like not having all the sound coming from the back of the car, it feels more natural now, more balanced, even if this "device" seems to be a fake sound device.

Also, by removing the foam, I did get rid of that "pffff" sound I could hear at low rmp. I was not aware that was because of the foam.

In any case thanks for this, this is very cool.
Now that caught my attention!

"I did get rid of that "pffff" sound I could hear at low rpm".

I had ordered a Range AFM Delete device in hopes of eliminating the pfff sound. I also bought a switch to go along with it so when driving highway I can switch it off and utilize AFM. So, if after removing the foam, the drone is too much at highway travel, I can switch the AFM back on and lessen the noise others are reporting.

I will remove the foam, and install the Range device, when I dig the car out in the spring and try it out... very exciting news since all other mods cost hundreds of $.

Oh love the sound will be staying with the mod.
Hey fellow TN dude. I have some vids of revving with fuse pulled, and 2nd cats deleted revving.

Did this "mod" today. Made a slight difference, but nothing crazy to me. I do have fuse #51 pulled, 2nd cats deleted, and K&N drop-in filter with cut stock airbox.
