Hell yah, I hope you can make it and not just because I can get a ride. We need to find out what region you are in up where you are stationed so you can attend events there as well.

![]() In the case of our 6th gen 1LE's, Track/Race would be traction Off / stability Off. It will definitely let you feel how the chassis works inherently, though it may not actually be quickest unless you're buttah-smoove. I'm wagering that Track/Sport1 or Track/Sport2 will end up being quickest for most good drivers. To bring that further, tracking cars without ABS is also an important learning tool to feel what the contact patches are actually doing, and it also trains you to use "the right amount" of brakes, both in initial application and total foot pressure. Jamming the pedal straight into ABS isn't peak braking power, and chances are it's also upsetting the chassis, making corner entry an inconsistent and hairy experience. Even further, tracking a non-ABS non-TCS non-DSC car in the wet is the ultimate learning experience, as there's variable friction, and zero aids. This is what I've been doing for the past 7 years with the Lotus and Miata, and they've helped me build a more competent skills base to be quicker, more consistently, in varying conditions. As the saying goes, "seat time, seat time, seat time." It also helps tremendously to have eloquent instructors that can articulate where your areas of improvement are. I personally find it helpful to ride with other instructors and race drivers when given the chance. Everyone has their own style but staying fresh with the fundamental techniques of driver posture, hand control, foot control, and eyesight moderation are important.

I just re-read the performance supplement. It seems based on the explanation the main difference between Sport 2 and Race is the prior is still metering power in corners.

I'm in the D.C. region and they have AutoX events down at Fed-Ex field monthly along with track days at Summit Point. Only problem right now is they don't have a Starting Line School scheduled so far, hopefully that changes soon.

As I mentioned earlier we have added Donaldson Airport in Greenville SC that is probably a lot closer to you. We have 3 events scheduled there as well as a novice school which I highly recommend especially if you're new to autocross. We also have a Crosstrial Shootout scheduled at that location too. The Crosstrial is a circular mirrored course and two cars are run at the same time starting at opposite ends of the course whoever gets to the start/finish first wins and it uses double elimination brackets. One of my autocross buddies had something like 24 runs at the one we had in 2016 and almost ended up winning the event.

Hopefully it won't be too far for you and your friends to at least get to the ones at the Michelin Proving Grounds.

You might also want to look into the SCCA starting line school. They have one on Feb 18th at Darlington. Cost of entry includes SCCA membership which will save you on each entry for our events, as well as a free local SCCA entry, entry into a Match Tour or Championship Tour, and a free entry to a Track Night in America. In the past they have also offered Snell SA approved helmets for an additional $100 and I think they intend to offerer something like that again this year but they haven't announced the prices yet. Here are all of the dates so far for the Starting Line School. February 18: Starting Line South Carolina Darlington Raceway; Darlington, South Carolina March 18: Starting Line Portland Portland International Raceway; Portland, Oregon March 18: Starting Line NorCal NASA Crows Landing Airport; Crows Landing, California April 8: Starting Line Boston Moore Army Airfield; Devens, Massachusetts Get the Porsche and GT350 guy to go with you!
