Man i hate to hear and see this. I hope you and the car get to feeling better real quick.

I am so paranoid when sitting stationary at red lights......I've had to punch through an intersection twice on my motorcycle due to vehicles not just not seeing me but not seeing the red light or anything else.....looking back them sliding sideways through the spot i was previously occupying and then halfway through the intersection makes me constantly watch my six........ Hard if not impossible to make that move in a car though.

To the OP:

Sorry to hear about your incident, and I hope that you and your companion have a speedy recovery. With your positive attitude, I am sure you will bounce back stronger than ever!

On the subject of distracted driving:
I can't believe how many people are driving while looking down at their phone. It used to be you would see a distracted driver once in a blue moon, but now, it is literally every other driver! And it is not just teens too, it is everyone! One time, on a major three lane interstate, my wife and I saw a driver swerving like they were a distracted driver. Then, the guy gets so distracted, he drove into the median. All four tires were in the grass at about 70 MPH. He slows down (we slow down too because we were behind him in different lane), recovers control a bit, and gets the car back on the road doing about 35. As we pass him, we see that he never put down his phone!!!! He was still looking at it (and probably texting)!!!! This is why I don't carry a gun.

Oh that is horrible! Glad you are ok. I get so mad when I see someone driving and their damn cell phone in one hand and steering wheel in the other, either talking or typing....the best part is that most of the vehicles I know have BT as standard equipment, but for some reason they don't use it.

Careless driving
You could face more charges – for careless driving – if you endanger other people because of any kind of distraction. This includes distraction caused by both hand-held (e.g., phone) or hands-free (e.g., Bluetooth) devices.

If convicted of careless driving, you may receive:

six demerit points
fines up to $2,000 and/or
a jail term of six months
a licence suspension of up to two years
You could even be charged with dangerous driving – a criminal offence that carries heavier penalties, including jail terms of up to 10 years for causing bodily harm or up to 14 years for causing death.

It drives me CRAZY with people doing this. So sorry to hear about your car SGDM, but am happy you were not severely injured.....

It would be wonderful if our States adapted driving policies as strict as your province. I am an advocate of draconian laws regarding distracted driving and drunk driving. Pretty much all States in America have seriously lax laws, terribly lax. Maybe a $150.00 fine and away they go.

Yes sir, no one can believe it, especially me. My wife said the truck that hit me was totaled! It appears that both doors are buckled and the dash was buckled, I don't get that one...good ol chevy!

Thanks for your service. I hope you recover soon. I have to wonder about whether the car companies should be putting Android Auto and Apple Car Play in our cars. How is this going to keep people more attentive when they will just be looking at a different screen and not the road? People in central Texas drive pretty poorly also.

I think the only way to stop this is to have police patrolling Highways and streets and spotting pieces of shit texting, eating , reading, or putting ****ing make up and send them a hefty ticket, hurt them with a heavy money penalty and these ****s will behave while driving.
