The 8500i was dropped by Escort. However, the 9500ci has been updated and you can use radar tools to configure the unit to no longer false alert on modern vehicles with collision avoidance systems. Once I did this my 9500 almost never went off, and when it did it was a real threat. |

the Valentine is the only one I'd go with personally
Or you could use the Waze App, I've heard it's become much better Nick C.

I wouldn't mind spending the money if it is really that good. I just don't want one spoiling the look of my interior.

Does Waze only work based on user reports? Doesn't sound very reliable. ..
Valentine 1's have the latest tech? Best source for these? |

The trouble with Waze is, when you see a cop, the last thing you want to do is grab your phone and get all distracted by reporting it. And I haven't found a way to report to any spot except where it's showing you at that very moment.

I'm still ultra-satisfied with my Max360.
Did a road trip from Spokane, WA to Vancouver, WA then another trip from Spokane to Seattle to the OR Coast, to Portland and back home. Plenty of warning for all the active cops and very very few falses. Hell even those falses may have been real just a cop far ahead heading same direction as me.

I would just start with a radar detector like Valentine One but like I said, check out the RDforum as they have data on what bands (X, K, Ka) are used in your state. Ask there and they will help you figure out what you should get.

I've been using the Max series for some time now. I currently have the Max2 and the Max360 Platinum. Both have saved me over and over again. When driving across the desert, the cops like to "blip" and not stay on all the time. On the flat ground, I've gotten warnings up to 2 miles away. All I see is Ka band and I know they are in the area. I like the Max 360 directional display a lot. It really comes in handy. I do get a lot of K band false alerts from other vehicles side detection systems. Especially when I'm following the 6th gen Camaro. The Max 360 is more prone to this and seems more sensitive. Only thing I know is, if it says LASER....I'm screwed as I am not running any laser splitters.

I use the MAX in conjunction with Waze. Know where you are & who uses what. Nothing is impossible unless you have counter measures. Laser shots are too late...Research what is available...

Using Waze means relying on the assumption that all cops are doing speed traps and that all speed traps are reported timely and accurately. Counter measures are your only true protection against LIDAR.

I don't use Waze personally, but I've heard they've made tremendous improvements and the number of users has increased dramatically, which helps it stay somewhat more real-time

If anyone is in a budget I recommend going to a deal website such as Slickdeals and looking for deals. I picked up a passport max from an authorized dealer for $235 shipped two weeks ago.
