RADAR DETECTOR, what to buy?

Hi, I have not bought a radar detector in over 5 yrs.
I'm sure the State Troopers and cops have newer radar available to them.

It looks like Escort & valentine are the main players out there?
I am fine with spending the money but not sure if I need the features like GPS.
I need something that catches the radar in any direction and also catches the "pop" radar. I read about a few saving the location of speed traps but is that helpful? I think I put enough info down for some advice.
Here is a few I was looking at
  • Escort Passport 8500X50 Black Radar Detector, Blue Display
  • Escort Max 360 Radar Detector (Black)
Thanks!!

Btw I tried to search the threads as I'm sure this topic has been covered but I could not find it.

Might want to consider the Uniden DFR7 also.

I bought a $99 Whistler for $66 from autozone because i had a coupon. I have used it for about a month. It seems to alert very well, from long distances. It picks up the speed limit signs with radar from much farther than i expected. it also has 360 degree coverage. For $99, it seems to work well. i had a $250 detector before (can't remember brand) but this cheap Whistler seems to do just as good a job. No scientific testing done here though.

Each town has its own budget for traffic control, so type of detection can vary from town to town. I have found that most towns around me in KY are still using K or Ka.

Wife and I both have the Escort Max. Had 2 issues, the suction cups don't always stay(i have switched to the blended mount for mine), and second issue is her sticker on the top of the detector that shows volume, etc...has faded. Other than that both work good. Excellent range on them.

There is a max on ebay right now with only 1 bid so far at $199

Depending on how much you want to spend the the two best ones on the market right now are the Valentine 1 and the Escort Max 360.

The V1 has a learning curve to get it right but its a great radar detector. It's also a couple hundred cheaper than the Max 360. If you just want something that's plug and play get the Max 360. It's the one I have and it's a great detector! It's expensive though.

This is the best forum to do your research on radar detectors http://www.rdforum.org/forum.php

I love my max360. I've had 8500 then 9500ix before that. GPS feature is the best thing for radar detectors. No annoying and useless hits, not to mention that escort is connected with other escort users on the road which comes in extremely handy when on a car cruise with others who have it.

I didn't know about that Threat Picture thing. Must be new?

Maybe I should get the upgrade.

Love my V-1!

If your pockets are deep enough....get an "Anti laser priority " jammer kit and I'd recommend an escort redline or max 360.

OK we've covered this several times already...do a search, you're better than that.

That all written, Max360.

What do you mean? What's wrong with the Max 360?

I second to this. Anti Laser priority is my next investment.
