So it's just a whim that some refuse to tune one? They just made sh*t up?
When it's your livelihood to know what works and what doesn't you figure it out pretty quick.
Tuners are a community. They talk and share findings. Shops talk and share.

I don't think someone has saved and documented all the data just to appease a web forum crowd.

I put the gm cold air intake on my 17 1le with their time and had a before and after dyno done . Not same day but it was same temps. I actually lost power after the install and gm tune. I posted the dyno results in a thread in the 1 le section a little over a year ago before I sold the car.

I have this intake and it has given me nothing but problems since I have had it. From fitment issues, to high IAT's making me have to wrap it in ugly heat shield, to weird variations in my MAF readings. Pray actually did tune my car with this intake in it over 2 years ago now (he probably forgot) and he got it as stable as possible.

I wouldn't put much stock in ram air induction. It was all the rage back when I had a third gen IROC and it actually helped those cars because the stock airbox was crap. The downside was the amount of crap the air filters collected off the road. Even on 4th gen TAs, an aftermarket lid makes about the same improvement as a ram air intake, and that's mainly due to a less restrictive design, not because of any "ram" effect. Still, I suppose it gives the aftermarket something to sell and the enthusiast something to tinker with.

Smooth, unobstructed cool air has amazing performance benefits, especially in forced induction.

The intake cover behind the grill (though it was likely designed as you mentioned, to prevent water and material intrusion) is incredibly restrictive. My Z is not a DD and rarely (if ever) sees the rain. I don't mind cleaning my filter element more frequently for the performance gain of feeding my LT4 cool and smooth flowing air.

If you are interested there was a previous thread on this subject with some great photos from member Mountain.

you are correct. Also seeing faster lap times at the same tracks, but lots of variable besides the CAI

I put a Cold Air Inductions system on my 2016 SS and it really helped. Seemed like it picked up a little hp and ran better too but it was on the stock tune. I left it on the SS when I traded to get my ‘17 ZL1 last month. Can’t decide if I’m going to get a CAI for the Z now and whether a Cold Air Inductions or Roto-fab system and not in a rush to buy.

I put a cold Air Inductions on my 2018 SS and I had to recalibrate the MAF sensor because it was causing my Active Fuel Management to quit working and throwing a p3400 code. I fixed mine with HP tuners there's a video on YouTube how to recalibrate your MAF sensor using HPTuners.

tube and box are installed right, double and triple checked everything even took battery cable back off to reset ecm still came on. put stock intake back on and had no problems. Put CAI back on recalibrated maf and its been working fine. No more codes.
