So this happened at Willow Springs, correct? If so, I am really confused about the numbers.

That video was a load of b.s. The Shelby loses to the ZL1 in every performance category. And it costs more, and that's before we start tacking on the ridiculous markups. Those 2 are idiots. I think Randy was more find of the ZL1. Yet these two clowns select a winner off an exhaust note. Clowns like this are why the R is so hard to get at msrp. They hop online and act like schoolgirls hyping the car just because it's got a "Ferrari" crankshaft. Lieberman actually agrees with the markups. Ridiculous!

It was 1.66 second difference, which is still big, but not quite 3 seconds. Yes, the GT350R has a large advantage in HP over the SS 1LE, so it stands to reason that on a track with longer and more straights, the higher HP car has a bigger advantage than at a shorter more technical track. But I didn't ever think of big willow as a short technical track, but then again, I have never driven it so....

Track conditions I bet. You start comparing times made months apart and you increase the variances. Though that does seem like a big difference on this this track.

Weight difference coming into play. But those tires on the R are definitely some equalizers as well.

True to a point. 1.74 sec is huge on a small track. Probst has driven same cars on different days and times are within hundredths of a sec, not almost 2 sec.

Keep in mind, they are crowning a "subjective" winner based off of feel and intangibles. A year or two ago, the Miata came in 3rd in the best driver's car competition. Which seems to be deserved. Look at how many Miata clubs there are and how many are on road courses every week. Things don't always have to be the fastest in the metrics to make someone enjoy driving the car.

But, where I disagree with Motortrend is they liked the harshness of the GT350R on the road. I'm not a big fan of that. I prefer cars that have a smoother ride when I'm on the road. It used to be that you could only have one or the other (planted on track or smooth on the road), but with the ZL1 (and the SS with MRC), you can have both. For me, this is why I would pick the ZL1 as the best car overall, even though I may like to drive the GT350R on a road course more (I prefer N/A power).

Agreed, it is a large difference on a small track. Too bad the R had not ran on this track before.

That second one is the 5th gen 1LE I believe. They ran the 6th gen SS on that track and I remember the 1LE was a bit quicker still.

This is exactly why I have been a big proponent of using the same drivers on the same day. This is not a new phenomenon here.

Randy Pobst set a track record (128.65) at Laguna Seca in November of 2015 using a 2016 Viper ACR. Last year during the Motortrend best drivers car competition (nearly a year later), he posted a 131.58 (2.93 seconds slower). Track temps, tire temps, tire conditions all have a factor….as does how much mojo the driver has that day.

If Big Willow, it's the top one. I can't see the video so just going from what's been posted here. The 2nd one is Streets of Willow.

As set up currently the ZL1 competes with the GT350 and trounces it; the ZL1 has massive torque and though engine doesn't sound as sexy, has a pretty basa$$ sound of its own and great power delivery making it all around the better car for every day performance including daily driving.

They are in the entertainment business and I think they both were talking out of the side of their mouth and this review was not consistent with their earlier effusive review of the ZL1 from a couple of months ago.

Both great cars, the ZL1 gives effortless amazing performance all around in relative comfort ...
I think the comparison was apt - just their results were skewed. The Camaro beat the ford in every objective measure.
