GM really wants people to build LTG race cars!

I was bored and looking at Chevrolet Performance's website and found this interesting contraption....

http://www.chevrolet.com/performance...-rwd-automatic

A transmission with an adapter bellhousing to bolt to the LTG. Comes with the bellhousing, a new GM 4 speed trans, and a 3800RPM torque converter! Yes please!!!! Now they just need to make some mounts to fit it into a 4th gen chassis! I'd be on that like white on rice!

I saw a couple online part warehouses selling it for less than $3095... But you also need the $1200 controller, and I haven't found a price for the converter yet.

That's rad! I bet if someone could dump the stock tune out of the gm crate engine ecm, there's a possibility that it could just be written right into the stock ECM in the car and have the 4 speed control.

I wish that converter would work with the a8!

Full manual TH400 and call it a day. Sure you’re mpg might suck, but if you are at this point you wouldn’t give a shit.

I worry it'd be too tall to clear the cowl covering half the engine bay - and if it wasn't, good luck getting the camshaft cover & plugs out with the engine installed.

The engine bay isn't as tight as a 3000GT VR4 or 300ZX TT, but it's not much better.

Put an LTG into an old Datsun though and give it a shaker hood or a hood bulge and now we're talking. You could set the LTG really far back into a really lightweight chassis.

Overall height might be an issue, but the I4 isn't much taller in the 6th gen engine bay than the LT1. If I ever got around to doing the swap, the car would be gutted for racing anyway, so there would be PLENTY of space.
