Because the 2010 Mustang was being developed in 2008, and the Coyote wasn't ready yet (which started in late 2007/early 2008). You think Ford just magically pulled the Coyote out of it's ass in less than a year of development?

The goal was to roughly maintain performance with the outgoing Mustang while improving handling, fit and finish, as I said. The Mustang did gain weight, but the S197 platform was already very light. Ford can easily make the Mustang platform lighter, but that would increase the cost. Plus..they started with the S550 project in 2009, but did a clean-sheet restart of the design in 2012.

They clearly state the M3 was the goal of the Boss 302, that was the benchmark and the goal they set out to beat, which they did.

As for the comment about aiming for Porsche?

Frank Davis, one of the Mustang engineers, stated they used BMW and Porsche as their performance goals and benchmarks, not the Camaro.

And then the S550 got wiped out? Come on.
So GM had 6 years to develop the Gen 5 Camaro and only stood against the Mustang for one year before the Coyote powered GT's came along and ended the party? I guess GM sucks because the 2011 Mustangs blew the Camaro away until the 1LE package arrived eh? Guess GM sucks too (see how stupid that logic is?).

Vorshlag racing tested both the B302 and the GTPP and found the GTPP was around 1.5 seconds faster.

Note, the Base B302, not the B302LS

Yep...

This was found over on the Corvette Forums, posted by Fen..

6.2L OHV production through 2021 in Y1 Corvette, 4.2L DOHC production in Y2 Corvette 2019 through 2024 report only goes through 2024.

Also 5.5L DOHC Y2 Corvette 2019 through 2024 report only goes to 2024.

4.2L DOHC listed in Cadillac "Sports" and CT6 zero production expectation through 2024 - that tells me the Cadillac option got cancelled

LMR just posted another vid. 11.92 @ 119.05. This was the first run with drag pack and resonator delete. They are going to adjust tyre pressure, cool it off, and then run again.

I wonder if the 5.5 is a base engine and the 4.2 is boosted.. If 5.5 is base DOHC, that could be pushing out around 500ish and be the engine for 7th gen SS.. A lot of ifs.. Lol

Im waiting to see some roll racing between the two, autos mind you, that takes most of the driver skill out of it. Then the torque and powerband of the Camaro will most likely show that it is still top dog.

I don't think the torque would matter much at that point..

Honestly, I stopped listening to every word you said when you stated "I don't think GM will ever get complacent despite what Ford does because GM is always aiming at the supercars and elite hypercars etc. Even back in the 90s and early 2000s GM was coming at the Ferraris and Lambos etc."

That told me everything I need to know about who I'm talking to.

Im very interested to see what a DOHC LT based engine will produce considering the DOHC LS7 Mercury build made 775bhp N/A. If thats what an indication of whats coming, its gonna be a fun time to be a car guy.

We all know Ford wins for power only for a year. (Unless there is a gt500)

The camaro starts out with 400 horses, then once the mustang gets more power. The camaro grabs an additional 25 horses, Chevy has a plan for every move ford throws.

All they have to do is get Grand sport horsepower, lighten weight a little bit, put some ZL1 elements in the car, then add some street tires. Why do you think 2019 camaros are using the GT350R?

There will be no Z28 this generation, what's the point of 2 race cars?

I don't think GM would get close to that while meeting emissions/reliability standards. But I too am very curious to see the rumored 4.2 and 5.5 DOHC engines
