Exclamation 2017 2.0T Camaro w/Driver - Weight Reduction

So on book it says 3353 across some sites i'll use that as my basis. I've taken my rear seat out and replaced the stock suitcase with the Flowmaster American Thunder Axle-Back.

While at the track last night with whiskeyfed I got on the scale and came out at 3355 lbs. I weigh anywhere between 115 to 120 lbs. i'm a lightweight to say the least. So removing the rear seats and stock suit case theoretically will save you roughly 117 to 122 Lbs. of dead weight.

We've had some discussion on Batteries which could save you a decent 20Lbs. depending on the type and brand. Wheels seem to be my biggest hindrance right now as i'm running the stock 20" Low Gloss Black Wheels which weigh a ton. I'll try getting weights sometime maybe my dealership will put one on a scale with my tires on it for a general idea. Aside from gutting the car what do you guys think would be a good step forward? What are your ideas and theories for simple weight reduction.

**** yea u got to this before me...I did the same as you with the back seat and muffler, and I already have the stock 18 inch rims. I was thinking of removing the passenger seat and replacing mine with a light weight seat just at the track.

It depends how far someone is willing to take it. My 99 came in at 2750lbs, but with severe weight reduction. When I took the rear seats out of that, I also removed the mounting brackets from the body by drilling out the spot welds. Removing the rear seat mounts, and the rear seatbelt mounts probably saved another 20lbs over just removing the rear seats. I probably scraped 20-30lbs of seam sealer and sound deadener out as well. Ran lightweight carpet, that easily saved 30-40lbs. Run rear drag brakes, 20lbs. Switch to a single outlet exhaust without a muffler! Always remember that ounces = pounds!

Oh yeah, take out the front and rear bumper supports. Pick up a carbon fiber hood, trunk lid, doors. That would probably save over 100lbs.

i believe i once posted a picture of the 4 wheel scale weight which came to about 3237 with 1/8 of a tank of gas, the muffler is about 30 and the back seat can't be more than 30, so i think your numbers are a little bit off

Are you running the heavy 20" 5 spoke wheels. Not saying I'm an expert but chevy says 3,339 some sites say 3355 lbs. Just going off of that as i stated. I could have a fair degree of weight on the car with the new aftermarket parts over the stock plastic parts not sayong your scale os wrong or you but I'm sticking to my dragstrips scale for comparison savings until i get to the town dump and get a weight.

not my scale, got this from an autocross thread. You can check it out yourself. My main point was that you were very wrong about the muffler and seat weights

My numbers were 31lbs for the muffler, but you'll
have to add the axle back for total net loss. The rear seats
are nothing more than foam and cloth, cant imagine them
weighing more than 15lbs.

I have everything stock in mine, plus the addition of the strut bar (which is about 5 lbs, if that) and my weight at the drag strip was 3515 with me in it. I weigh about 200 lbs give or take 5. I don't know what Chevy is advertising but rough simple math wise. That would make the car 3315 without me in it.

If you zoom way in you can see the scale in the top left. My car when I was going for the hero stock run weighed 3150 w/ 1/4 tank of gas, no rear seat, lightweight battery and my ghetto race wheels WITHOUT driver.

My rear seat only weighted like 13lbs or something. Battery saved me 23.2lbs. Wheels saved me 76.4 lbs

Of course I weigh 280-300lbs, so the race weight was still 3450 : (

Your absolute biggest gain in weight reduction will come from wheels and tires. Focus your money there first IMO. I attribute the lighter wheels and tires to have picked me up .5 second in the quarter mile, and that also take .5 second off my 0-60 time.

More then likely i was, but was using what i weighed and what chevy and sites say the car weighs as my basis so i couldn't say where the rest of the weight went. I know my aftermarket parts weigj more then the stock parts aside from the downpipe. I'll get all the seat stuff weighed this weekend and see what it comes out to for me.

Maybe I should double check accuracy of my scale.
I have 15lbs for the stock downpipe.
