Gen 7 will have a v8 option. I'm all for hybrid option as well on these cars. If you don't track it and weight is kept somewhat in check, a small v8 hybrid would be amazing.

I tried to stay out of this thread for a number of reasons, but here I am.
A lot of conjecture in this thread is based on the fact that The Washington Post completely misinterpreted Mark Reuss's statement. When Mark said "GM is going all-electric" he meant that for advanced propulsion options, GM will focus on vehicles that run all-electric. He did not say or mean that all GM vehicles will be electric by 2023. GM is committing to 20 new electric vehicle options by 2023. It is very likely that the 20 includes plug-in hybrids (like Chevy Volt) as well as full-electric (like Chevy Bolt). Today GM has more than 80 models. If 20 are going to be electric, that means the other 60 will disappear (sooo not likely) or will still be ICE.

I'll probably get flak for this... But if they can get me an electric Camaro option with the same off the line performance of a P100D (that can actually make it around the track without going into limp mode). I'm down.

I can just see it now. The all electric Camaro will have a fake digital soundtrack of ICE sounds piped in through the radio speakers. ICE enthusiasts won't know the difference. lol!

Let her rip! Enjoy those mountain roads with no radio on, windows down, v8 grumble and your senses taking everything in. Makes me wish i still had my dad's 79 trans am. It was slow, but the engine was rebuilt and it sounded so good. Nice day taking the t-tops off and cruising some nice quiet roads. Nothing better |

It is not a matter of what anybody wants. EV technology has always been limited by the battery. Capacity, range, cost, safety.
Even if you are one of those people who can live with limited range, it's not a trivial expense when the battery pack dies. It costs $15,000 to replace the battery pack in a Chevy Bolt. And if any of you are involved in the RC hobby, you already know about the danger of lithium ion and lithium polymer battery packs catching fire. To be honest I never originally thought of purchasing a Camaro when I did but started to see the writing on the wall. Seeing as I keep my vehicles for about 10 years I thought this might be my last chance to purchase a true, pure V8 before they were either castrated by emissions standards or taken out of production all together. Looks like I may have made the right decision after all
.More European countries are calling for "0 emissions" vehicles (hate that term electricity is not 0 emissions it's usually worse) not too far down the road and GM needs to meet the demands of those markets. Toyota sounds to be close to developing a reliable solid state lithium battery that can charge within minutes with double the capacity of standard liquid lithium batteries so the concern of charge time and potentially could soon be a moot point. With cost of utilities in my area (especially with time of use charges being different) I question if an electric vehicle would in fact cost less to run than an ICE, I find it hard to believe. Not to mention I don't think any power grid is ready for 10s of thousands of vehicles to plug-in and charge on top of already existing utility usage but guess only time will tell. Hopefully GM doesn't just immediately kill off the V8s but it doesn't sound promising. After the Camaro I was hoping to purchase a straight V8 Corvette (none of this hybrid/electrical drive shit I wanted the pure driving experience even if it meant more HP/TQ) after which point I could care less what I was driving but good chance that isn't going to happen. Better keep this Camaro well serviced and in immaculate condition. If the only options in 10 years are electric vehicles I won't be selling this thing any time soon .

There are a number of companies working on time-to-charge. Current state of the art (no pun intended) is about 20 minutes to attain 80% of full charge with ultra-fast charging protocol. Most people who buy electric cars will only need this to make long trips where they exceed the full range of the battery in one day. This would be trips over 250 - 300 miles. Most charging will be done overnight at home. If you start every morning with 200+ miles available, range anxiety becomes a thing of the past EXCEPT for those long trips. My wife has a 2017 Chevrolet Volt with 53 mile electric range. Since she rarely drives more than 50 miles in a single day, she wakes up every morning with a "full tank" and almost never uses any gasoline at all. If she had a 200 mile EV, she would be just fine. There are people who cannot plug a car in every night, though. Those people will continue to drive vehicles with ICE. Just an idea of the pace of development of battery storage density.... about 10 years ago I bought a 10 gig external hard drive. It was the size of a DVR and weighed about 8-10 lbs. Yesterday I bought a 1-terabyte external drive. That's 100x the size of the last external drive I purchased. This is it in the picture. Similar development efforts happening in the battery industry.
