![]() If I was asked that question my response wouldn't be phrased like your statement ("no it's modded"), which implies you did something intentionally as a performance boost, but it isn't stock. It has been modded - which is only short for "modified" if you weren't aware. I'd simply say the only thing I've done is changed the tires for whatever reason. ![]() I don't think anyone on here is claiming you have an unfair advantage with all-season tires. I really think this is coming down to the purity of the term, stock. Otherwise, how far do you let it go? How do you qualify which tires you still consider stock and which ones you don't? The definition as it comes from the plant makes it very easy to differentiate. Finally, what if it does in fact net you .01 in your 1/4 times? Then, once 10+ people do that and post their times to the fast list, you've bumped all truly stock cars off the list. Still fair? Just my two cents. Spend them wisely.

The quote was as follows verbatim: "goes from a 12 second car at 125MPH on all seasons, to a low 11 second car at 126MPH on the summer tire option" So the "low eleven seconds" to a mid eleven seconds gets your dander up? I did not quote 11.0, 11.1 or 11.2. You inserted that as if that is what I quoted. The HC still wins. I simply said it was close. It is a difference of 1/4 to a 1/2 second. Worlds in 1/4 mile race. And that is not with optional upgrade tires, but the only way the Z came. But with $695 in options (HC upgrade) that would buy a lot for the Z to make it even steven. |

If anybody on here is near ATCO and wants to get a stock 10 second pass in, I have just the opportunity for you to do it. A local car club I'm friendly with is hosting a track rental at ATCO on October 6th, 8am to 4pm. Both lanes, full prep. With the crisp, fall air combined with ATCO, a 10 second pass should be a sure thing. It's $200 a car, unlimited runs. You can probably get 50 runs in if you really wanted to lol.
If anybody is interested or has any questions, let me know. |

Lol not really. The serial range of those used in the manufacturing plant would be considered stock. I know you get it, no matter how hard you wanna fight it.

I'm likely going to be heading back to Bowling Green next Saturday for LS Fest. Hopefully the temps will be down again like this weekend and the track prep will be good again. Maybe I can get the Z to go even faster than at Street Car Takeover. Plus Cleetus said he's bringing Leroy the Savage! If you don't know what Leroy is, do a search on youtube. Hopefully he has his limp mode issue figured out by then. If so, he'll run a heck of a time with a good launch.

Wow, crappy 60' times and a little passenger as well...still running 11.40's.
![]() So, picking up .2 on the launch and .1 less the passenger... 11.1 |

Just looking for a suggestion, where would be a good place to post about the ATCO track rental I posted about above where a bunch of East Coast ZL1 owners will see it? I'd love to get some ZL1's over there and hopefully get to witness a stock 10 second pass or several in person.

Yeah. 11.19 has been my best so far without a passenger and only .1 better 60'. If I can knock another. 1 off of the 60 and get a little better air, I'll be in the 10s.

I literally re-wrote this 5 times to not be so harsh, so if it comes across that way apologies, BUT You're trying to say a Gen5 ZL1 is "close" to the quarter mile performance of a Hellcat, or a Gen6 ZL1 for that matter. A half a second and 5MPH difference isn't even in the same ball park when talking 1/4 mile times. Maybe go to the track a bit with your car and you'll start to get it instead of riding BigDave's coat tails with his times he achieved. He basically got almost 100% out of that car to achieve the times he has and that's NOT easy. To put it in to perspective, to gain 5MPH in the quarter mile, you need 100+ more hp or have to lose 700+ pounds off the Gen5 ZL1 using 580hp and 4400 pounds as the base starting point. |

It is in that vein that I wrote Dave was not far off. "Coattails" (is one word btw), "misinformation" "pet peeves" etc. are all ways to incite. Apparently you don't realize that. Or you don't care. Especially when you change your op from "low elevens" to "11.0..." That's wghat I took issue with. I live 30 minutes from Road America and 40 minutes from Great Lakes Dragaway, so, don't worry about me: I have my fun. This has been beaten to death. Perhaps...a little more precise wording, and not changing the op to suit your position would go along way in not arguing the minutia. I stand by what I posted: Dave regularly achieves mid elevens in his bone stock 5th gen Z...and that is close to low elevens. |
