Well, why not jump in here.
<<After a few weeks of V6 ownership you'll realize what I'm talking about if you don't already understand.>> Or not, because it may not be an issue? <<If you're breaking this down to the point of regular gas vs. premium, you probably shouldn't be buying a car at all.>> Not really. Some folks, unlike me, are quite serious about budgeting. I commend that. If you want ultimate performance, get the SS. But many folks (especially our women friends) don't give a shit about performance. They simply love the styling of the car. So that makes the 2.0 or the V6 the RIGHT move for them. I love my SS 1LE, but I would love to drive a V6 1LE. There's no way I wouldn't call that car a serious performance car. I'm 70. My first performance car was a '69 Z/28, bought new. I LOVED that car and was amazed by the performance. A new V6 1LE would destroy that car in all areas, so it's all relative. Yes, time moves on, but there is NOTHING wrong with a 335hp sporty car, IMHO. There are many cases to be made for a V6 Camaro. Different strokes for different folks, testosterone not withstanding.

Not so fast. The new Gen VII Golf R with a Stage II tune has been dynoed at 354hp/387tq at the wheels. It's a great performer. I'm a long time GTI guy, but the $40K price tag kept me away.

1. RS PACKAGE 2. CONVENIENCE AND LIGHTING PACKAGE That brings a 2LT with LGX to $37,740. A 2SS is $42,995. That's only $5,255 difference to have the LT1, better brakes, HD cooling, and a much better suspension. When you compare a 1LS (since 1LT includes the A8) to a 1SS, there is still a similar difference (albeit bigger) when equipped equal minus any performance items. $31,245 vs $37,995. So this idea of $10K is not accurate at all. Especially if you consider the available performance items to bring the LT up to SS levels (excluding the HP/TQ of course). I know the guys picking the LT over the SS likely don't care about those performance differences so I left them out from pricing. There is tremendous value in the SS cars compared to the LTs IMO. But I can see how $5-7K can be a too high for some budgets, especially if they find no value in the performance level difference. As for this LS1 debate, the only close comparison would be LS1 A4 with 2.73s vs LGX A8. Those were real slushbox days and it took some work for them to keep up with M6s. The M6 LS1s are almost 1/2 a sec quicker in media testing than the LGX A8. Real world has shown quite a few LS1 M6s break into the 12s. That's quite a bit of difference anyway you cut it. So the accurate comparison would be the LGX has better performance than the old LT1 F-bodies which is still impressive. Especially if you remember the dog that the 3.8Ls were in those days.

I had Gen 5 V6 Camaro once. It was great car. Did some minor bolt on mods. Being it had a manual trans the gearing that came with it made good use of the tq in 1st, 2nd gear but didn't to much punch in 3rd gear thou it would steadily climb just wouldn't punch like 1st and 2nd. Then again I never really had anyplace to wind it out full in 3rd anyway because I would be well in the 3 digits. The SS is a whole different animal, punches hard in 1,2 and 3, don't know about 4 never had the space to get into 4 wide open as I would probably be pushing 130. That being said the V6 was fun in the manual trans. The V8 is just more fun and effortlessly power delivery. The Gen ^ V6 has even more HP but no real tq increase over the Gen 5.

Despite what the people above talking acting like they know what an LS1 ran like I can honestly give you an opinion as I owned a mint 2002 6-speed manual LS1 equipped Camaro for over 10 years. My 6-speed manual lgx V6 would definitely be able to give an LS1 Camaro a run. You guys talking about the fifth gen Camaro are forgetting that it had less power and that it was 400-plus pounds heavier. And one of the things that makes the alpha platform so much fun is the handling which I can guarantee you is better in the V6 then the V8 due to the less weight in the front end.
I'm Canadian so money is a little different here I got my car which is on one LS I added the V6 I added the RS package and NPP and I added the Bose stereo and I added the hyper blue metallic I factory ordered this car it cost me just over $37,000 if I wanted to get a one ss with NPP and without the hyper blue metallic and without the Bose stereo it would have cost me $45,000 and who would want a car with at the NPP so you're looking at minimum $46,000. To me there was no way the V8 was worth a $9,000 price difference. The V6 is fast it sounds beastly it turns heads it doesn't have those horrible looking pieces of plastic in the hood or that horrible wing on the back enough with bashing other people's choices unless if you're taking your V8 to the track you're definitely not using it anyway and you could have definitely gotten by with a V6 and you'd be surprised how fast it actually is. |

Funny you should mention the Golf MKVII, I was running with one at Daytona this month. This one is not stock however. I could catch him, but I couldn't stay with him once we got on the banking. We got to talking later and discovered I ran against his wife in a Deland Autcross this year. https://youtu.be/--Sf3xDTnK8

No brainer, get what suits you. If you have to ask, and have to justify your purchase to everyone else, than you might as well save up for the ZL1 1LE.
