I'm in the same boat you were in--absolutely love my SS, but there is part of me that wants the ZL1 A10 in the worst way. If I can find the right deal this fall on one, I'm going to be buying one and selling my SS.

I had and loved about 10 different manual cars. A nicely done heal toe downshift is a thing of beauty. That said, I have no regrets with my A10. 7k miles later and I am still paddle shifting myself for good involvement. However, when I want to go fast, auto mode. This thing is amazing.

You really are stuck in manual mode. I'm sure you meant "paddle" shift.

A10 all the way! No regrets what so ever. Best transmission I've ever driven in anything! You still have 2 manual mode options when tooling around and wanting to change it up and have fun. Not quite the same as having a full on manual, but still fun. It's still the full auto mode that amazes me. It's just so good!

The rev matching is useful/fun and you can turn it off...

No more autos/DSG/SMG/PDK EVER for me on a sports car, had them and everytime resulted in me trading car in after 6 months...

Sports car = involvement == NOT auto (as long as my left knee works)...

I know it's a bad topic so my $0.02 that's all... (but after getting prematurely rid of about 5 cars with auto/auto-like transmissions, M3-SMG, M6-SMG (*2), Golf R-DSG, 911-PDK)... nothing beats manual for fun/involvement... yes it's bad for numbers and drag strip...
Agreed ever Auto sports car I've owned, got old very quick. My 5th Gen ZL1 M6 has been a blast for the last 2 years, now onto the 18 ZL1 1LE.

Bought the A8 SS. I regret it often, but the car is still a beast. I will never be getting another automatic car though. Took me buying it to figure that out. My daily is a manual that I bought after the camaro. Never going back to auto.

16 SS was an auto. It was a great transmission but I regretted getting an auto immediately as it became “boring” to drive after a few months of ownership. Even the A8 shifted faster than I ever could on a manual, I’m sure the A10 is a work of art. But when choosing my ZL1, after much deliberation, I chose the M6. Putting it through the gears repeatedly with my foot to the floor during track time and I can barely put a dent in the transmission temp.

Thanks for the replies.

I know the A10 is a wonderful thing and faster but I am leaning towards the manual. If I was going to DD, U would get the auto but for summers and weekends, I want to rip through the gears. My 94 Z28 was a manual and it was very fun. I would need to try both but not many around here in central NY let alone 1 of each at the same place.

I half-heartedly considered the A10, mainly due to the fact I had a hard time finding the M6 in stock in the Phoenix area. There were approximately ten A10 for every M6 when doing my search several weeks ago. Ultimately, I bought a M6 and couldn't be happier with my choice.

The dealers understand what the vast majority of buyers want, the automatic transmission. I was fortunate that I'm one of the few that still wants the manual, as mine was sitting on the showroom floor for a few months before I bought it. I'll probably get hurt a bit at trade-in time, as "Nobody wants the manual anymore" will be their justification for the low number they give me.

Personally, if I were to get an automatic, it would be because I did not want to deal with a clutch in traffic on a daily basis and that would be a car I would own for utility, not fun (and it would no longer be a Camaro).

I understand the A10 is faster and is a terrific transmission, but the lack of involvement kills it for me. I would be far less likely to get in the ZL1 just to "go for a drive" if I didn't have the manual.

This car is soo awesome that there really isn't any way to not enjoy it regardless of the transmission.

A10 zL1 is faster until it has to cool down and starts hard shifting and clunking gears. M6 all the way.
