Wait 2-3 months and start searching cars.com for a good deal on a 2SS. I got my 2SS last December for 25.5% off MSRP.

I have a house, an upcoming wedding in Hawaii, 6 weeks in Italy and a ton of other things to budget for. Someday I'll buy a V8 and it will be a ZL1 and I'll drive it 2 days a week for 5 months out of the year and I'll still drive the speed limit and it will never see a track.

True V6 HP is where V8hp was in the late 50s and early 60s. But V6 torque is not there yet. Tq in the late 50s were in the 300s. By the 60s tq was on average high 300s to in some cases close to 500.

If GM put a twin turbo V6 in there with the same power as the V8 then I would have no problem driving that. If they made an electric Camaro similar to the Tesla Model S, then I would prefer that to the V8--or any other engine for that matter.
I would go with the V6 over the 4. Have you heard the sound that 4 banger puts out. I wish the 6 was an octave lower but it sounds better than the 4 banger. If I were a V6 owner I would add a flowmaster resonated X-pipe then some free flowing axle back mufflers of your choice going through 3in pipe. It won't sound as good as a grand National but it will lower the tone and remove the rasp. This is a tip for any V6 owner.

All I did was add the American thunder and I think it sounds very good. It's not a V8, but it sounds awesome regardless. I'll consider the X-pipe though but doesn't that reduce sound as well?

Yeah, it's a shame the V6 doesn't have the torque to back it up. I wish it was closer to 350 but I don't design engines I design electrical circuits so I don't
Know how much more power can be made haha

If my figuring is correct, the 3.6LV6 makes more power per cubic inch than the 6.2LV8 n/a.

It makes the sound deeper.

No way...not in tq. That where most of the power comes from to get you going off the line.

Actually they're both equal in power per cubic inch. remember the SS is only slightly over 100 HP more power and twice the displacement.

Test drive them both. As someone who recently went from a v6 (not a Camaro but similar) to a V8 1LE I'm very happy with the power and by power I mean low end torque. Yes the a good v6 these days will make great horse power up top. The problem is you will find mph where you can't downshifts into the power when you want it. When you do make power you have to rev the balls out of it.

I've seen a few posts here talking about the power in the LT1 being unusable on the street safely. I disagree. If I can downshifts into third and be at 3K rpm and then ease on the throttle to quickly but smoothly pass traffic I find this much safer than the alternative situation I used to run into with my v6. In a similar position with a v6 I would have to downshifts into 2nd so I was at a much higher rpm and I would have to push the peddal through the floor to get the acceleration I needed to pass quickly and get far enough ahead to merge over safely. In these two scenarios I'm ultimately accelerating at the same speed but in the V8 it's effortless and smooth and in the v6 you really have to push the vehicle.

I would describe myself as a safe but spirited driver. I believe I drive safer having more low end torque with the V8 vs the v6. If you don't intend to use your daily drive car in a spirited fashion and like to slow down when merging I don't think the engine would make any difference so I assume anyone debating between the two engines enjoys driving at least somewhat spiritedly.

Another thing worth mentioning is my wife also feels safer driving with me in the v8. She didn't like how hard I pushed the v6 sometimes and feels safer with my driving style having the V8.

It's rare that you can safely use 100% of the LT1 at redline on the street. But it's great driving a car that can put a smile on your face only using 70% and saving the extra for special occasions.

Your mileage may vary.

I'm not arguing against the V8... but I'm not so sure that's really a valid or true point.
I believe it's safer and easier to accelerate on the street with low end torque than with the high rpm required by a v6.

This is with a manual btw. I imagine it doesn't matter as much with an auto.
