With that said, these new Camaro V6's in normally aspirated form put out more hp than a stock 87 Buick Grand National. Nothing to scoff at.

Buy what you can comfortably afford and don't question it later. I had a 2013 V6 and now a 2017 V6. I love the V8's and the sound they make but I'm only 30 and I'm not ready to have a $600 a month car payment for a daily driver. Some day. Until then I'll enjoy my 29MPG and my V6, I don't race, I don't go to the track, I just drive it. If you're not doing those and you don't care about having a V8, save some money.

It would be a bit unique, but the base SS will still out perform in every category.

Without stating the obvious, hopefully we all appreciate what we have and they'll always be someone with a faster, better car but for me, I'm here because I love driving, always have and so choose to spend a higher proportion of my income (than most) on my car because it's a passion and I genuinely the appreciate the benefits of a particular car over just something that'll get me from A to B...

I have no plans to measure my 1/4 mile or 0-60 times but knowing the numbers gives a relative view on performance which (in part at least) equates to a measure of fun. There are so many dimensions though to the "fun" element without even looking at the additional comforts and toys we enjoy - an earlier poster even quoted the "more fun to drive a slow car fast" which I get (GT86/FRS a good example) but for me, just landing on these shores and having owned a number of fast cars over the years, it's a unique opportunity to buy a car that's not sold in the UK... so whether it's a Camaro 4, 6 or 8, I just can't wait! (I know... should've been poet but err... didn't know it)

Thanks again all for the lively chat - great discussion!

cheers,
Pete (the OP)!
best thing i can tell you is to drive all the powertrain/option combinations available before you choose.if you can find a CPO camaro thats a year old you could let someone else absorb that first year of depreciation too and still have a bumper to bumper warranty, meaning you could drive an RS for the price of a base model or an SS for RS money.

True, but at the track, for how long? Having to come in early because something is overheating is a waste of track time, and probably not good on the longevity of the car.

Camaro does not have any overheating issues... Brakes do get HOT but that's why when you purchase the car, GM gives you air guides for your brakes to be installed before track and new fluid to be done before track... 10 heat exchangers + brake guide on just the SS. 11 on LT4 applications... You can run the camaro for 3 days straight with only overnight rest which is exactly what the Camaro team did to introduce it's track capabilities. V6 1LE = SS WITHOUT LT1 and LT1 numbers are far better off than the LGX thus allowing even a base 1SS to outperform the v6 1le in every single category..

That's weird, i thought for sure i read the 1le added cooling to 1ss, but i now see conflicting things that there is no added cooling with that package?

If GM is will warranty track use for the v6 1le, and SS1 and above,
http://www.motorauthority.com/news/1...to-a-racetrack
i must be wrong in thinking you need a 1le for the v8 on the track.

The V6 car will always be 225-250 lbs lighter than a comparably equipped V8 car. Also for a 12 month daily driver, the 18 in. touring wheels and tires are just more forgiving / less demanding than 20 in. low profile tires.

I was very happy with my 2014 C7, it was a bit hard to get in and out of , but overall it was a very satisfying purchase. It was my second V-8, after owning a 13 SS/RS. I went down to the dealership wHEN the Camaros came out and they had a SS and an LT/RS on the floor. I mod all my cars for a "clean" look and it struck me how much the LT was much more Aston Martin like, with lack of vents and that goofy boy racer wing on the SS. I then drove the LT, and was very impressed with the power output, it was more than enough for my around town, no track use. So I bought it. I could have had either, to me the LT just looked better. I do like vents, I just don't like the ones that are on the SS. I went ahead and mounted hexvents on my car. And I'm very happy with the look. Using reg 87 gas with no knock is just a bonus.

Now with MMR 017'S

The Statements made above that all V6 and 4 owners can't possibly know what they bought, or are just too poor to afford the V8, is ridiculous.

I have a 2013 v6 and now im looking for a used 2013-2016 1ss or 2ss with low miles. I have been kicking myself for the past 4 years for not spending the extra 5k on the 1ss. Dont make the same mistake i did. You cant beat the sound of a v8

This is one of the most ridiculous posts I've read on here in quite a while. My favorite part was when you mention disliking the vents and wing on the SS. And then you show picture of your V6 with... vents and a spoiler. (Things you obviously could've changed on the SS.)

Well played man. I thought you were serious for a second.

You are driving a 2015 GT. That is 0 60 in 4.5 I believe. What are you doing here?

Mustang fans are like the fans from your most loathed team. They're 2-8 and you're 8-2 and they're telling you that your team "sucks." I like mustangs but I can't recall the last time (or the first) I've ever signed up to chat with them about a car I don't own.

The SS in every form, from 1SS to 1LE has all of the cooling packages. The SS is track ready (assuming you add the brake coolers that come standard with the car, but not installed, and maybe swap out brake fluid?), but certainly not as track capable as the 1LE
