OP, get the V8. Too many people try to justify the smaller engines only to have buyers remorse 6 months later and lose their ass on a trade.

Holy shit I'm dying lol.
Also, what is with the less practical crap? V6 vs V8 is near identical on gas mileage. Premium vs regular? The LT1 can run on regular, at the expense of some power. Summer tires? Um...you can put different tires on an SS too. Too much power? Don't press so hard on the gas then. Enjoy that nice low end torque, as you effortlessly get up to the speed limit. Besides, passing some slow bitch is so much more entertaining with the roar of the V8. For whoever questioned my previous car ownership...car dynoed 413/414 with the setup on this run. 7.7 @94mph https://youtu.be/T454VIEGNHQ

Who knew my first post here would get over 100 responses! Thankfully I'm not looking to break any records and feel the same about my car.
Without stating the obvious, hopefully we all appreciate what we have and they'll always be someone with a faster, better car but for me, I'm here because I love driving, always have and so choose to spend a higher proportion of my income (than most) on my car because it's a passion and I genuinely the appreciate the benefits of a particular car over just something that'll get me from A to B... I have no plans to measure my 1/4 mile or 0-60 times but knowing the numbers gives a relative view on performance which (in part at least) equates to a measure of fun. There are so many dimensions though to the "fun" element without even looking at the additional comforts and toys we enjoy - an earlier poster even quoted the "more fun to drive a slow car fast" which I get (GT86/FRS a good example) but for me, just landing on these shores and having owned a number of fast cars over the years, it's a unique opportunity to buy a car that's not sold in the UK... so whether it's a Camaro 4, 6 or 8, I just can't wait! (I know... should've been poet but err... didn't know it) Thanks again all for the lively chat - great discussion! cheers, Pete (the OP)! |

Don't have any advice here... but i'm considering a similar dilemma. I want a camaro as a car i can take to the track 8+ times a year. The v6 1le is a few thousand within a bare bones 1ss, and i think the v6 1le would be the better choice.

My suggestion is to RENT one for a full 24hr day. That's what I did with a V6 RS. 345 miles! No salesman to say, "turn right here, turn right here, turn right here. What do you think?" No salesman to tell you to slow down. You live with the car for a day, not 15 minutes. Drive anyway you want to. Best $200 you could spend.
The delimma now becomes "which do I rent first! I only rented the V6 and was very impressed. But I test drove the V8 afterwards and is was like HOLY SH!T!! If I drove the V8 first, I might not have been as impressed with the V6. My finances and being almost 65 years old...and a practical guy buying an impractical car...I got the V6. |

Having owned ALL V8's in my day Camaro and Firebirds (92, 94, 94, 97, 99, 01) in 2010 I had test driven both a A6 SS and A6 V6. Loved them both but at the time I did not need another V8 I still owned my 01 Z/28. I was looking for a daily driver and I did not need the SS I found a loaded 2LT RS with everything I wanted and purchased that. Up until November 2015 I still owned the 01 Z/28 and from the day I purchased the 2010 V6 I had only driven the 01 5-6 times until the day I sold it in 15. I continued to take my 2010 to shows and cruise in's from the day I purchased it until the day I sold it (the car was no longer a daily driver in Fall 2014) in April 2017.
I had always wanted a convertible as well as an anniversary year car and figured this would be my last Camaro purchase so I opted for a 17 2SS convertible. To this day I loved the 2010 2LT/RS did I ever regret not buying the SS in 2009 Nope, the V6 is plenty and what I wanted over HP was the creature comforts. The same goes for the 2017 sure I could have purchased a 1SS cheaper but I wanted the creature comforts but this time around I opted for the 2SS. If I was on a budget I would choose a loaded 2LT over a 1SS again for me it's about the creature comforts the power I never really use. As other have suggested drive them both if you have never owned a V8 you will love it, if you have and you are at the point where power is not everything and you are happy with the V6 go for it. Good luck

Maybe a few guys with 87 Buick Regals with a 305? LOL!
With that said, these new Camaro V6's in normally aspirated form put out more hp than a stock 87 Buick Grand National. Nothing to scoff at.
