Zl1 Vert owners, couple questions
I'm having trouble finding a coupe, so I'm considering widening my search to a vert and have a couple questions for driving enthusiasts, especially if they've driven the coupe.
Do you guys notice the scuttle shake at all? That is, when you're going around a fast corner, does the body get upset and the car looses its line/feels wobbly? Do you miss the eLSD? I actually think I may have more fun in the car without the eLSD because I like to power slide from time to time (at slow stop light left handers for example, I'm not talking Jeremy Clarkson stuff, ). I notice that in my c7 z51 its nearly impossible to slide the car smoothly - likely due to the eLSD right? Are there a lot of rattles/wind noise issues? Do you lose any rear headroom with the vert? It looks like you loose some rear visibility with the top up, but its hard to tell if the interior roofline is the same as the coupe. Any other regrets?! Thanks fellas!

No regrets at all.
I've taken it through turns hard enough to trigger the performance shift mode (it's an auto) but the car never got loose. No matter how hard I push it, it stays rock solid. I don't know about missing the eLSD. Never drove a coupe. I have some very minor squeaks from the top where it attaches to the front windshield. But that's only when the top is up. Which is hardly ever. Wind noise is not a big deal under normal driving. I've been up to 100+ and I'm focused on other things besides wind at that point. I have 17 years driving a previous Vert as a daily driver so I'm used to some wind noise anyway. I'm told the windscreen helps a lot but I need to put my hockey gear in the back seat so I can't install the windscreen. Rear headroom is a non issue. At 6'4" I have the front seats run all the way back. So no room for back seat passengers. |

Not sure how much adding the Vert to your mix of possibilities will increase the options out there.
Cars.com shows 363 Coupes and only 61 verts across the nation (many of which may already be sold and are just in transit). Will probably have an easier time dealing on a Coupe than a vert too...here is California there are ZERO verts for sale in the whole state. Convertible capital of the US and we can't get any! :( Hoping mine gets built soon!! From what I've heard others say on the board here and the few vert reviews out there...it drives VERY similar to the Coupe. Sure you will most likely notice the difference on the track, but then again ZL1 verts won't be allowed on most tracks from my understanding.

Had a Convertible M6 traded it for a coupe A10
Nothing against the convertible, but traded due to wanting the A10 vs the M6. I should have decided that before purchasing the M6. However, with that said, I enjoy the coupe and the A10 more than I did the M6 convertible. If I would have kept the convertible I doubt that I would have driven it as much as I do the coupe A10. That is just me and my preference. I found the convertible to be as rock solid as the coupe and just as quiet. The convertible is a great looking car, no complaints except for the track issue if you want to do that. In the Dallas/Fort Worth area there are several coupes to be had and a couple convertibles last count.

I don’t think I’d get an extreme performance vehicle with a convertible top. If you are just going to wax a car on weekends and drive it to dinner on Saturday, their are better options, I think. Esp if you’re gonna spend almost 70k.

For me: - ALL the performance I could ever want/need. - Amazing and aggressive styling. - The ZL1 has "soul"...so many new cars lack it - Great sounding exhaust. - World class handling. - All the tech goodies I could want. For the wife: - Automatic (she doesn't want to learn to drive a manual) - 4 seats so the 3 of us can all fit - Convertible...her favorite type of car For our 10 year old: - A constant grin on his face every time he will ride in the car! - Loves convertibles now (we are borrowing my brother's BMW Z3 until the new car arrives and our son LOVES the open top experience) - Loves fast cars - Loves the look of spoilers on cars So for $70k it was the ONLY car I know of that does it ALL for us!!

These are confidence inspiring comments!
I'd love to hear more on the lack of LSD! I normally love new car tech, but I think in this case the lack of eLSD might be more fun - not putting the power down faster on a track - but more fun on the street.

I think the Corvette's snappy drifting characteristics are due to weight transfer and rear suspension tuning, not the eLSD.
