I had the front clip repainted by my dealer on my SIM Camaro, I think GM or whoever they use are the worst offenders when it comes to painting metallic colors, especially silver on their bumpers/front clips.

I'm very impressed with my Gen 6.
Black is the easiest color to spray. A 10 yr old can spray a black car. It's the prep and body work that is under the paint that shows. A heavy metallic is by far harder to spray than a non metallic color. Because of tiger strip issues

The paint is definitely very thin with some imperfections I performed a full detail and it looks 100 times better. Good luck with your purchase

I have a 2017 SS, black. Paint is Perfect.
No peal, no swirls, just perfect black...looks like oil.

Anther friend bought a CT6 and I took a close look at his paint, same high quality.

So GM can do a high quality paint job on the assembly line, but right now it seems to limited to the Cadillac line
I agree with this. I have a Malibu LTZ with the optional tri-coat paint; yes, it cost a significant bit above normal paint, but the quality is the equivalent of the Cadillac referenced paint. GM and Chevy CAN put down quality paint--it's a shame that it only comes at a premium. Don't know if the premium, tri-coat paints are available on the Camaro (weren't available when we bought our '12), but if they ever are, to me they are worth the premium!!!

That is an excellent idea! Maybe they should offer the tri-coat paint on the Camaro. I would certainly would have paid the extra to have that quality of paint from the factory.

But I think it's more than that. There is just another level craftsmanship in the Caddy as compared to the others in GM's lineup. I can see everywhere in her XT5.

Tri coat paints are just 2 base coats and a clear, Camaro does it in 3 colors. Tintcoat, as they call it , is not so much better as it is just thicker overall as it is more coats. The downside is it's a bit harder to blend and match existing paint.

GM paint jobs quality depend on the plant painting. The vette paintjobs are terrible and GM has acknowledged that, by building a new paint line that will better control humidity, which causes the variation in paint quality.

Is this RustyDaytons guy for real??? Did he read the thread title?

I have a nightfall gray metallic 2SS and paint has come off of the car in multiple places. Makes me nervous to get it detailed that the paint will just peel off

Owning two 5th Gens I've come to accept GM paint quality... my 5th Gens would get paint chips so easily and some peeling (made my heart cry on my Synergy Green).

So far I don't have too much animosity with the paint on my car... however, my biggest gripe? How the paint on every 6th Gen I've seen doesn't have a smooth finish on the edges that face inward towards the car. I feel like later on the paint will peel from that direction.
