If u say so lol. I know how to fix paint. You unfortunately don't, and cry online about it.

If you think the paint on a Camry is good then you will have no problem with the Camaro. I don't think the factory can spray a car without orange peel.

Did you do the prep work yourself?

Rusty, No one forced him to buy a car that should have had perfect paint to begin with. No matter what. No one paying as much money as we have for our cars, goes into a dealer expecting a $hitty paint job. We shouldn't even have to inspect these cars as thoroughly because that's the manufacturers job to do before it even leaves the plant. GM has no QC, PERIOD!!

OPINIONS ARE LIKE @SSHOLES, EVERYBODY HAS ONE AND THEY ALL STINK!!

They vary. Simply check the paint before buying.

Camaro quality is rated average by Consumer Reports.

Challenger and Mustang are rated 2 notches lower, to the worst - Much Worse Than Average

Been reading the forums for a few months now and have gathered lots of valuable info.. so thanks to all who contribute.

I'm purchasing a new car sometime this month and have it narrowed down to a 2016 v6 Challenger sxt plus or a 2016 v6 Camaro rs with npp.

I had all but discarded the idea of getting the challenger after reading about the improvements made to the 6 gen camaro rs. Much more modern platform than the challenger, more power, less weight, better handling, bad ass exhaust.. great car for the money imo. Pretty much a no brainer.

That said, I've recently been reading about the apparently low quality of the paint on these new camaros and it's causing me some hesitation. Actually, it's kind of a deal breaker for me. I'm not a huge speed or horsepower guy like many of you.. I just want an awesome looking car with enough power for normal driving. Looks are high on the priority list for me. I certainly don't want to drop 30k on a car and have it be full of rock dings, swirl marks, and other imperfections within a couple of years. I take good care of my vehicles and my 2010 Camry still has impeccable paint condition. I also don't want to buy a car and then have to go drop 2k more in paint protection. That's crazy to me.

Help me out here.. am I worrying about this too much? Are the issues over stated? I LOVE the new camaro and think Chevy hit this one out of the park but to have a crap paint job on it is unforgivable imo. Its the most important visual aspect of the car.

I'd appreciate any guidance, opinions, or experiences you guys could offer?

Thanks for reading.
Not to worry. My black '17 SS (pure black not the Mosaic black) is as deep, glossy/shiny virtually no orange peel look as my previous European cars like my '12 Audi TT RS, '15 Audi S5, '15 GTI, etc. I can tell you if black is good than the other colors will be just fine since black is the most difficult color to get right. I'm very impressed with my Gen 6.

My daughter has a black Challenger, and that car has some paint issues with orange peel and thinner spots. So it's not just Chevy...

My red hot SS has decent paint. No real issues. And my understanding the easy to chip is due to the newer mandated water based paints.

Those that say QC shouldn't let go their vehicles don't understand how a factory works. QC doesn't paint the cars, robots and humans do. You can not "inspect quality" into any mass produced product, it is all about the standard process and materials used. QC is their check and balance. Refine/improve the process, not inspect, sort, and repair. No profit in that.

Yeah, I'm picky.. I wish I wasn't honestly.. Would make my blatant consumerism a lot easier!

I realize for an under 30k car I can't be too picky but I will still try to get the most for my money. The challenger's seem to have a good rep for paint quality and I personally think they look great but much prefer the camaro.

I'm getting either hyper blue or metallic gray and I guess I will just inspect the absolute shit out of it when buying. The dealer is going to hate me but whatever.

I can't imagine how picky I would be if I was dropping $60k like many of you!

Thanks for all the replies thus far.
We're all picky about our cars on here... But yeah dude, just look the car over real good for scratches / swirls in case the dealer did a bad wash / detail job or something... Maybe get a clear bra for the front and some wheel well rock guards if you're that worried about chips. I didn't buy any of that stuff and I've been daily driving mine for 14 months now. I only have one small noticeable chip (if you look close) on my hood from a big freaking rock that hit me on the freeway. The front bumper is getting a little chewed up but the paint isn't coming off at all.

I have a nightfall grey and it looks amazing; especially when it's all waxed and washed up. I've put many many coats of wax and paint protection on it.

You can definitely see the orange peel when you look close, but this isn't a big deal to me. 99% of people out there in the real world won't notice it and if they did wouldn't know it's a paint imperfection. I doubt you'll get much better paint out of Dodge.

The car still looks beautiful and I get nothing but compliments on it. Plus it's an absolute blast to drive every day! This V6 isn't f***ing around

It's a standard large volume manufacturer's factory paint job (orange peel is part of that reality). it's why a $40K car competes with an $120K car. We have to sacrifice better paint, better interior comforts like a plastic dash (who's that review guy that bangs on the dash each time he test drives a car?). Overall, it's a great car and the best value performance car in the world.

My S.O. bought a Cadillac about the same time I bought my Camaro and the difference in paint quality is night and day. I've helped two of our friends with BMWs finish their cars and without a doubt, the S.O's Caddy paint is superior to the BMWs. Anther friend bought a CT6 and I took a close look at his paint, same high quality.

So GM can do a high quality paint job on the assembly line, but right now it seems to limited to the Cadillac line

Don't Camaro and Cadi share a plant? I wonder if they have a different paint process / facility?

Compare cost of CTS-V to ZL1 for instance. I'm guessing the paint quality may be part of the reason a CTS-V is 90K.
