overkill or Trifecta

I am looking to get a tune on my car and I was wondering which would be a better option... The overkill tune or the Trifecta tune. The one thing I like about the Trifecta is that you can turn it on and off with the drive modes. Other than that I doubt know the differences. Can anyone throw some knowledge my way to help me make a decision?

After working with will from Overkill I am partial to them. To me it's always a bit more then just the product.

Do we have any input on whether or not the ECU shows a flash count?

Supposedly it shows up. Though the trifecta tune has on option that suggests otherwise.

I would just assume it does show up. I dont think any service techs have chimed in yet one way or the other. If it's a concern of yours, dont tune your car. (these are not "chips" that get plugged in and augment can-bus data to trick the ecu into behaving differently, so they do write to the ecu and tcm's flash memory. I think trifecta's stealth option simply mimics the version/identity info from the stock firmware but that's just a guess. A hardware counter is not likely to be fooled without direct hardware access and even then you'd have to be lucky they aren't doing what cell phones do).

Both tunes are going to be subtle for an otherwise basically stock car. Both will probably improve the car's performance roughly equally.

Both have options that offer custom tuning using data logging you gather. Though i dont think trifecta offers a wideband to rent directly from them (could be wrong though, it's been over a year).

Trifecta tunes the ecu and the tcm. Not sure about overkill on what they do to the trans.

Trifecta offers active AFM management. I think overkill can do this too if you request it but not sure if it's all or nothing.

Trifecta does lock their tune, forcing you to revert to stock if you ever want to use another program to customize your own tune.

Not sure if overkill does (or even can do) that, since they use hp tuners.

Trifecta's flashing is proprietary to them. Meaning you can use the tool provided to only flash their tunes on the vehicles they support.

Overkill uses hp tuners which means you may be able to get multiple uses out of that tuning software for less cost than purchasing an entire new tuning pkg for another car.

Trifecta's tune is straight forward, simple and easy to do. Not sure how hp tuners ease of use is.

Not sure if you'll get more than anecdotal opinions about either tune. Nobody's gone back to back with both on the same car that i've ever heard of.

Your definitely going to get a flash count, If you are looking to tune your car and try to trick the system I would advice not tuning at all the gains you are going to get on a stock NA car are minimal.

As to Answer the unanswered in cellsafemodes post

Yes Overkill can tune the TCM shift points etc.. As for the different tunes based on touring or sport mode I cannot tell you as I woudnt want this anyways.

Overkill tune is not locked however its advised once your dialed in not to mess with it. But you could easily flash back to stock then go back to the overkill tune if needed with the autocal tool.

As far as ease of use its pretty basic if you can click some buttons and follow the printed out instructions you would be provided with I would say its no more difficult then any other tune.

I am not against trifecta by any level... I am more of a personalized feel kinda guy I like the feel of knowing someone is there to help and answer my questions and that its the guy doing the tuning.

Not sure on the tool but from my use of the autocal you could flash any tune you wanted provided by another tuner.

I like the fact that Will tuned my car based on Me/my driving style. I don't know of any other level of service like Will-Overkill Motorsports.
The tune Will does is totally custom for You! To me, that's what is important. We have used HP Tuners and Autocal depending on where I'm at (shop Vs home). He's on here, suggest sending him a message for questions on his tunes.

Get the custom tune. As far as shop preferences Overkill has made a pretty good following on here so far. Trifecta for all their knowledge has burned down a lot of bridges from the 5th Gen community. I'm not bashing their tune however but their customer service and unwillingness to be 100% transparent is something you need to think about as well.

Guys I would love to know what kind of gains are made from a tune for the LGX . Even if the HP/TQ gains are low...the improvements in the trans tune on its own may very well be worth it. But that's not thw only good thing about a tune. All in all a tune is worth it provided your okay with voiding the warranty.

I am sorry to ask a stupid question, but here goes. Am I correct in assuming that the Overkill tune is the one I would get via HP Tuners? HP is customizable right? Thanks.

On my car we have used both for tuning purposes. Here's what is shown on the website: http://www.getoverkilled.ca/2016camaro.html

"What you'll get with your purchase:
An Autocal handheld tuning device
Overkill 91/93 octane tune
Tuning support for datalogging and custom revisions
Tuning support for new mods as you add them, for as long as you own the vehicle"

There is not much for non forced induction numbers myself and storm are the only FI builds atm.. mine is still in the process of being tweaked.

Without any supporting mods as others have said a tune might not net you much there isnt any real info out there yet someone has to start somewhere...

Ghosteye07 on instagram did e85 with a tune and was almost 300 hp to the wheel but we are not flexfuel.. so its e85 or nothing our computers do not have the pin out for flexfuel.

As for a standard tune its also very hard to tell because of the limiter you would have to dyno stock with limiter tune with limiter then dyno with limiter and then tune out limiter and dyno again.. no one has done this.

Someone has to do it lead the way :-)
