As others have indicated, there is really no way to avoid the seams - but where they are located is a result of the design of the templates. Most good film makers try to use body panel seams as the primaries, and sharp angle changes as secondaries. This minimizes what your eye sees when viewing it normally. I've had PPF on at least six cars, and I would rather be bugged by seeing the occasional seam in the film than a hunk of missing paint or worse from a rock chip. Car color also plays a big part in what you'll see. White and silver show the least, while black and darker colors show more - simply because of the contrast when light catches the edges of the film. For the hood and upper fenders, ask the installer if a "bikini cut" is an option - this curves the film on the hood and upper fenders so that it blends better to the eye.

QQ: For those that got your cars done, how much gap do you have between the XPEL and your headlight? I have a few areas (the headlights and the front lip) where there is a bit more of a gap than expected. Maybe a centimeter or so. I feel like I'm nitpicking. Also, from research, it is my understanding that this is the normal way to wrap edges (I probably should say corners) Quote:

I have no gaps like that on my car. As others have said, it's all about the installer not the film. Hate to say it, but your friend is correct.

It's all about the person doing it. They can also custom cut to avoid any defects on a template.
Those edges are not normal at all. It won't cover 100% of the edge. You do indeed cut for fitment BUT you cut the edge part into 3 separate parts (or rather cut the piece directly above the edge) thus the edge part will roll under it. The way they cut in that picture, that edge is not protected.... Which defeats the entire point of a clear bra, at least for that section... Bad install. |
