Hotshot Ford just can't win. They should have given the Mustang 454 hp imo just to be humble.

Also, they clearly need to catch up to the Camaro with the 10-speed, mag ride...

The Shelby line is their best shot to impress me.

Wow, Michelin Pilot Sport 4S are an available option. The Drag Strip mode sounds pretty cool.

Quote:
Drag Strip mode optimizes torque, transmission and newly available custom-designed Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S tires to deliver maximum acceleration and performance in straight-line driving.

In Drag Strip mode, the engine torque doesn’t drop when you’re shifting. You get peak engine torque and horsepower straight through thanks to our new Ford-built 10-speed transmission.”

Lets remember that 10 speed is a GM /Ford collaboration. More GM than Ford though.

I'll be interested to see more of what the car is about - IE: weight distribution, total weight, salmon time, breaking and max G's ......just to name a few

Also, there was a comment stating:

"In Drag Strip mode, the engine torque doesn’t drop when you’re shifting," said Mustang chief engineer Gene Widmann in a statement. "You get peak engine torque and horsepower straight through."

While I no doubt on the torque comment, I am interested to see proof of this linear horsepower......I think that Mr Widmann's nose might have grown a little on that particular part of his statement.

But all in all, its good to see the healthy competition between these two powerhouses

I'm sure it's better than the current 5.0, it's pretty lifeless. I see the 10 speed is available with 3.55 gears, that in combination with the increase in torque should end all the "it doesn't have any low end" complaints. I'd really like to see GM add just a little more gear to the SS.

Looks like a nice setup. I read somewhere that it's only 460hp on 93/94 octane though. Seems like Ford is getting desperate and a little shady with the HP numbers.

Overall it was a good refresh. They needed a lot in a lot of categories to catch up and it looks like they did them.

Fleet of refreshed 2019 Chevy Camaros spied outside proving grounds

Quote:
2019 changes are likely more than skin deep, with updated engines and transmissions making their way into the car.

Engines should gain a slight bump in both power and fuel efficiency.

Don't rule out a Camaro with a DOHC V8 under the hood, possibly badged as Z/28.

Look for the new 10-speed automatic to make its way into more models.

SS definitely getting the A10 for the 2019 refresh, and maybe a power bump, too.

My reaction to all this: It's about time. I'm kind of tired of 6th gen Camaro owners beating on the Mustang for being the slower of the two cars despite the Stang being $3-5k cheaper.

Chevy needed a good kick to the pants so they can reflect on their long term strategy. The higher price is no longer as justified. Folks at GM had their heads in the clouds chasing exotics and almost acted as if the Mustang wasn't even worth mentioning anymore because it was no longer a contender. Now things have taken a nosedive back to reality, and they need to chase their domestic rival again.

I enjoy these cat and mouse games. That's how progress is made.

cars are getting insane. Not sure how many people on here are old enough to remember when 12s were FAST, but now they're like, "yawn..." I can think of more than a few cars that run 10s stock now, which was super bike territory or all out drag car back then. Just crazy.

Pretty sure GM led on the FWD 9 speed and Ford led on the 10 speed.

The LT1 I read makes 458HP/458TQ, GM just says 460 for the Vette and 455 for the Camaro, but they're the same. So this new mustang has essentially the same HP (but working much harder to get it) and a good bit less torque. Basically the only thing going for the new mustang is the 10spd, and the Camaro will have that in a year or two. I'm a manual guy anyway, but I'm not even slightly impressed with this new GT.
