I seem to recall something similar when the 5th gen ZL1's came out regarding warranty while tracking the car.

I believe it came down to the warranty covering tracking the car as long as it wasn't competing in a race and was left in stock form.

??

I have my car on the track sometimes and have not been shy about talking about it with my service advisor. As long as they are kept stock GM will honor a warranty claim on your car if something happens on track. That is why I'm not touching my drivetrain and have followed all of the track prep requirements laid out in the manual.

Sorry you had to deal with that. Manufacturer defect has absolutely NOTHING to do with tracking the car... Now if you had gotten paint chips, sure. That will NOT be warrantied no matter where you got it... but paint bubbling and all? You need a new service dept. Also, if you could post some pictures, that would be great!

To clarify, the service advisor said the red flag came from GM but didnt think it would be an issue having the hood insert fixed. It sounds like it came up when he ran the vin #. I'll try to get more details when I bring it in...

So this has nothing to do with GM (was in their software already), and everything to do with training and bedside manner of the service writers...

Just to play devils advocate, I'm going to defend the dealer in this situation. Most dealership service advisors or technicians don't give a damn if the car has been to a track day. It ultimately comes down to official warranty policy (and that is what's in their official warranty operations manual -- not the media). This service advisor only mentioned it because GM had somehow flagged the car in their system. If it were me and my car, I'd want to know that info. I don't see anything wrong with what he did. The real question is how it got logged on GM's system.

I agree. I appreciate the dealer mentioning it so at least I know. I told him I bought it for the purpose of tracking it and he agreed saying he would do the same thing with this car. I will followup to see what implications there may be in the future...

Read the GM OnStar and Mobile Internet agreements.

Basically it comes down to; if you use the system you waive all privacy and all data collection is fair game.

GPS and Data Logging will paint a pretty accurate picture of speeds, driving loads, impacts etc.

The GPS can tell if you bounced it off the rev limiter (counts), high G forces (racing) and probably in your case driving and being on the phone.
The one thing they can't tell is if you drained the oil, seized the motor and put the oil back in.

Just out of curiosity, did you track it before the break in period was over?

If that was the case, I could understand GM's position on flagging it, otherwise I would go over the dealership's head and get some big wigs involved.
