All cars now by law have to have on board black boxes! I doubt insurance can see this info without consent as it falls under right to privacy!

I for one am against their ability to record and use data... I did not order a PDR with my vehicle for this reason. I know they have black boxes but that is unavoidable. It should not be an issue unless I crash.

Well, if we're going to get in to the law enforcement thing.. Also, you need to remember all the other portable devices you have with built in accelerometers and GPS tracking (even cell location pinging).. So, it's not just your car that can "tell on you" --- on top of that, WiFi and PoE powered cameras are so easily obtainable these days, that you pretty much need to assume that you're always on camera, somewhere.

Mr. Meh entirely correct. I have GPS/Location disabled on my mobile device (even still I am being tracked), will never get onstar, If that crap is in my car when i get it I'll have it removed. I have nothing to hide but enjoy privacy.

I don't know GM's policy, but I've seen modified cars get red flagged in BMW's system. Usually, this can only be done by a field engineer or area rep. I believe that when this happens, warranty claims need prior authorization.

I would like to know how this info got saved in GM's system though. I've heard of manufacturers having people at big track events just for this very reason. So it's very possible the VIN was photographed and manually logged. If it truly is by GPS and onboard data, that is very disappointing. I guess it is either way.

I'm guessing the dealer wasn't pulling this out of thin air. Maybe someone here can take a look at your vehicle history report (or whatever GM calls it).

Wow, I didn't realize the car manufacturers or dealers did this. I openly tell my dealer that I've gone to the drag strip. I've even shown up with numbers on the car and they still honored warranty fixes (although they were very minor). I also buy/lease two or three cars every two or three years from this dealer and they list me as a "preferred" customer, so that may cause them to be more forgiving.

Its become a game of cat and mouse. My audi was running 20lbs of boost and by no means anywhere close to stock. In order to hide this I'd flash a stock tune before service. The Audi tech's had to know but they didn't tell on me! Will dealerships really knock you for a CAI or exhaust? I don't think so but I have not been with Chevy yet.

Threads like this one and the ones on steering issues are concerning. I've been considering buying a ZL1.

My wife has a Lexus RC350. Service is always a win. You pay for it but you're treated like royalty. Now I don't expect a Chevy to be quite so "high end" in the service area. I do expect them to help when there's a problem, not look for an excuse not to.

More and more so I'm starting to think that it may be immaterial if a ZL1 is hard to get. I really don't want to have to go to war to get something fixed that common sense says should be a standard warranty issue.

Your mileage will vary...

I've had 0 issues with my 2010 SS highly modded being warrantied for things that were known issues, even on stock cars.

Or my '12 Grand Sport or '16SS that I fully admitted having tracked AND brought to the dealer with the track paint/numbers still on it, rubber in the wheel well, etc.

It always will depend on the dealer, your relationship with them, the type of issue you're having worked on, etc.

Some dealers don't want the headache. Some don't care enough to know the difference. Some will go out of their way to retain you.

There are a couple that have performance shops attached to the dealer in our area.. They're usually the easiest to work with as they mod GM products right there at the dealer, so Chevy knows, they know, everyone knows and the dealer knows what can and can't be warrantied out.
