I've read comments in the past the Ring times are not same driver same day. This qoute illustrates that Ring times are in fact the best possible time that the manufacture could get with the car after repeated and unlimited attempts. The best time, from the best driver on the best day. The limit of the car.

Ring times speak to the car's potential which to me is very meaningful.

Yes, ring times are times achieved by any certain driver in certain weather conditions on a certain day. Like any other racing venue, conditions change frequently. Now if those times can be repeated in various conditions by various drivers the times hold more weight.

The point author makes with the memory being 90% is absolutely, undeniably correct. The rest is just an embellishment (and justification) of a bad opinion. The most important thing I look for in Ring times is comparison between models and, the driver is as important to this equation as the tire choice. It needs to be the same driver, or same level of skill, knowledge and familiarity of venue that put up the 'standard' ZL1 time for me to give it much credence. I am looking to see how much faster one model is over the other with most variable remaining the same.
The list is an overall example of where cars might rank in the pecking order of manufacturers' best efforts. The exorcise and it's result is more entertainment to me than a reason to buy. I know that is not always the case with hype, though. World wars have been won with propaganda.

Ring times are a measuring stick of performance cars. If someone is looking at a ZL1, they're looking at it probably because of it's performance. So his whole argument is illogical.
It's also bragging rights. It is great to see a production model Camaro running with cars costing $100k more. I suspect Jack is just a butthurt fanboy whose particular favorite brand got beat or doesn't even post Ring times. |

this would be awesome:
http://jalopnik.com/5891398/man-want...ring-in-nevada oh, and you will always have the detractors from road course records - they are typically fans of 1320 straight line courses and believe it's the only thing that matters - and although my experience on the Camaro forums is that for the most part they are both equally respected, not so much so for the owners of cars that can't turn but are great on the drag strip.

I think the "Writer", Jack Baruth, is clueless and in all likelihood is cruising the back roads in his 30+ year old k-car......

He probably went to some track in his Mustang straight 6 and turned in the track record for the worst time, so now he says recorded track times don't count.
